~Lucifer~

"Damn it", I sighed, my hand still locked with Sam's, "We were supposed to be meeting each other tomorrow like normal people. But now I've just screwed that up just like everything else, haven't I?"

Sam looked at me sympathetically.

"You haven't done anything wrong", Sam told me sternly, "Stop putting yourself down. You're worth a lot more than you think you are".

I smiled appreciatively at him, leaning forward to plant a kiss of his lips, but a nearby voice stopped me.

"Yeah, Luci, he's right. I mean, I'd pay a good two dollars for you!"

Sam jumped at the sudden new arrival but I just rolled my eyes and quickly let go of Sam's hand.

"Gabriel, what are you doing here?" I asked with irritation.

"I accidentally swallowed some bubble liquid and I need to make myself sick", Gabriel explained, sarcasm seeping through his voice, "So, I figured I'd come here and watch you two flirt for a while. That outta do it".

"You haven't changed at all", Sam muttered.

"Sammy-boy!" Gabriel exclaimed, "Been a while, huh?"

"Mmhm", Sam murmured uncomfortably.

"What are you really doing here?" I asked again, "Do you want money or something?"

"Can't I just visit my dear brother without being accused of selfish needs?" Gabriel pouted.

"No", I replied simply.

"Fine", Gabriel gave in and his tone became more serious, "Lucifer, I actually need to talk to you privately".

Gabriel glanced at Sam, giving him a mock-sympathetic wave. Sam sighed with annoyance before giving me a concerned look and exiting the room.

"Alright", I stood up and clapped my hands together, "Make this quick. What is it? Are you out of candy? Can't find any people to mess with?"

"Lucifer-"

"You do want money, don't you?" I asked with an amused grin, "Gabriel, you're an archangel. Don't you know that you can just magically make cash appear out of-"

"Dad's back".

My humorous smile faded. Suddenly, my throat felt tight and my legs were feeling weak on the ground.

"W-what?" I stuttered, unsure as to whether I had just imagined what he said.

"Dad is back", Gabriel repeated, his voice monotone.

"As in..." I paused, sitting back down on the bed because my head was starting to spin, "As in dad? God-dad?"

"Who else?" Gabriel chortled, his eyes emotionless.

"How?" I asked with disbelief, staring up at him, desperate for information, "Why?"

"You think I know?" Gabriel snapped, "He only said a few words to me, inside my damn head. I would've thought he'd want to speak more after all that's happened..."

"Yeah, well you know who he is", I muttered, "Or should I say what he is? Still a spineless, cowardly, careless traitor. That's what he is. Of course you wouldn't know this, being dead and all, but he came back for a while. We actually made up. But then he disappeared off with the Darkness of all people and abandoned me again".

"It's funny", Gabriel sneered at himself, sitting down on the bed next to me and sighing solemnly, "I was actually excited when I heard him. I had just got my brother back. Now my dad too? Hell, I was over the moon. But he just informed me of his return and then abandoned me".

"As always", I pointed out.

"I mean, maybe something came up", Gabriel ventured, "Maybe he was busy".

"No, Gabriel", I turned to face him intensely, "You need to realise that that's just what he does. He...he makes you think that he's actually there for you. That's before he completely betrays you and leaves. He may be our father..."

Gabriel looked at me, his eyes sad and hopeless.

"But he'll never be our dad", I finished.

Gabriel nodded to himself coldly before reconsidering his reaction and, instead, shaking his head with disbelief.

"Yeah", Gabriel murmured, standing up and giving me a hurt look and sarcastically adding, "Well, thanks for the comfort, Lucifer. I really needed that".

"Gabriel-"

He was gone before I could even continue.
