~Dean~

Cas and I had a small bucket of human blood at the ready for Bela. She was eyeing the injection I held firmly in my hand wearily.

"On seconds thoughts, maybe I could get used to being a demon", Bela suggested, hidden fear in her voice.

"Come on, Bela", I mocked her as I collected some blood from the bucket and filled the injection up, "You're not scared of a little needle, are you?"

"Of course not", Bela quickly replied, "Just get it over with please".

"Whatever you say", I held the injection in front of my face and squinted at it, "This is gonna hurt like a bitch afterwards".

"Thank you for the warning", Bela murmured with sarcasm.

Cas was being oddly silent during all of this. More quiet than usual.

Cas placed a hand on her shoulder and held it still. Bela tensed when the needle pierced through her skin and she closed her eyes until it was out. I released the blood from the injection and took the needle out carefully. Bela looked confused.

"I don't understand. I don't feel anyth-AH, SWEET MOTHER OF GOD", Bela screamed when the pain started.

"I hate to say I told you so but...", I couldn't help but enjoy watching her as she felt the pain I had to go through.

Bela threw her head back and yelled again, her eyes momentarily turning black as she roared with anger.

In the background, I noticed Cas pressing his hand against his forehead as if he was in pain.

"We're gonna leave you for about an hour", I informed her, glancing at Cas with concern, "Then we'll try this again".

She grunted with annoyance and fury when we slammed the door on her. Cas turned to me with a worried look on his face.

"Are you alright?" I asked.

"Dean, I don't..." Cas exhaled lethargically, "I don't feel so-"

I watched him, not understanding, and he grabbed my shoulder quickly, clinging onto me as if he was about to collapse. His eyes were half open and he was struggling to talk, his words only coming out in an exasperated sigh.

"Cas?"

Before he could speak, he suddenly fell against my body. I held him cautiously and protectively.

"Hey, hey", I wrapped my arms around him, pulling back to look at his closed eyes, "Cas? Cas!"

I shook him vigorously but his eyes still remained shut. Helplessly, I slung his arm around my shoulder and carried him to my bedroom. I carefully lay his fragile body down on the bed and grabbed his face in my hands.

"Come on, come on, come on", I whispered hopefully, holding his face intensely, "Please. Please".

Feeling nervous and scared, I lifted one of his eyelids open but was only greeted with a full white pupil. Thankfully he was still breathing, for now at least, but I was still feeling frightened.

After staring at his unconscious face for a few long seconds, he made me jump when he suddenly jerked awake, sucking in a heavy gasp of breath, his eyes widening with shock. I sighed with intense relief, shakily gripping his shoulders.

"What the hell just happened to you?!" I asked him.

"I...I don't...know", Cas said in between sharp breaths, "I just-Agh, Dean!"

He held his head in his hands, almost screaming in pain. When he opened his eyes again, they were strained and bloodshot.

"Tell me what to do!" I shouted worriedly, "What do I do?!"

"It's okay", Cas eventually breathed out, holding his forehead fiercely, "I'm okay".

"You're damn-well not okay!" I told him sternly, "What's going on?"

"I think it's because of my lost grace", Cas answered, still looking uneasy, "It usually hurts, becoming a different species than what you are. It's just...This hurts a lot more and I don't know why".

"Crowley's gonna get your grace back", I promised him, "And then you're gonna get back to normal".

Cas didn't reply. He looked doubtful for a few seconds. I brought his face close to mine before kissing him softly.

"I'm tired", Cas murmured.

It was only 1:00 in the afternoon but I could understand his fatigue. I stroked a lock of hair away from his eyes.

"Do you want me to stay here with you?" I asked.

"It's okay", Cas smiled slightly but it looked fake.

I nodded, rising up to walk over to the door. I turned back to look at him but his eyes were already closed.
