After turning back to say something to Sam, Dean closed the door behind him and fell down on the bed next to me. Dean looked at me through his tired eyes.

"I'm caught between whether I want to fall straight asleep or whether I want to kiss the crap out of you", Dean murmured.

"I'd prefer the latter", I smirked.

Dean held the back of my neck and planted and soft kiss on my lips. There was something so relaxing about kissing Dean in the dark when we were both tired. Dean was always so gentle at night whereas, when he was fully awake, he was more rough.

Dean's lips suddenly stopped moving and I opened my eyes to see him with his eyes still closed on the verge of falling asleep from opposite me. He was too tired. I smiled fondly at the sight and stroked his cheek before turning my head to lay flat against the pillow.

After a couple of minutes, sleep soon took over my body.

As always, I woke up with Dean's arms enclosed firmly around me with my head against his bare chest. Even when we didn't fall asleep with our arms wrapped around each other, we always woke up so close together that even a piece of paper couldn't fit in between our bodies.

Dean groaned, adjusting to the sudden morning light. I nuzzled my face into the crook of his neck for a few heavenly seconds before facing the fact that I had to get up. If I allowed myself to relax against Dean's warm body for any longer, I'd never want to get out of bed ever again.

For once, I was the one letting Dean lay in. He frowned, his eyes still closed, when I abandoned the bed but I gave him a light kiss on his hair and he smiled again.

I left the room and was greeted by Sam who was on his laptop, as always.

"Hey, Cas", Sam smiled at my presence.

"Hello, Sam".

"Tell me something", Sam shut his laptop and sat up straight in his chair to face me, "Has Dean been acting weird lately?"

"Define weird", I replied.

"I don't know", Sam shrugged, still looking concerned, "Just...different".

"Why?" I asked, "Is something wrong?"

"No, no", Sam said quickly, "It doesn't matter. Anyway, is everything okay between you two?"

An unhidden smile made its way on my face and I nodded.

"Everything is...amazing", I exhaled happily to which Sam beamed, "I know Dean doesn't like to talk about it but I think he'll relax soon enough".

"I'm sure he will", Sam agreed.

At that exact moment, the door behind me opened and Dean walked out whilst stretching his arms tiredly.

"Morning", Sam said to him.

Dean yawned heavily and nodded in response. To my surprise, Dean came up from behind me and planted a short but sweet kiss on my cheek before disappearing off into the bathroom. Sam raised his eyebrows, his grin widening.

"See?" Sam proved knowingly.

I approached Sam and seated myself in the chair from opposite him.

"How are you, Sam?" I asked because I hadn't checked up on how he was doing for a while.

"Yeah, I'm fine", Sam shrugged unconvincingly.

Tilting my head and squinting, I tried to work out his facial expression. Sam shifted in his chair uncomfortably, glancing at me every few seconds insecurely.

"You don't look fine", I told him, "Did something happen recently?"

"No", Sam replied too quickly for it to be perceived as normal, "No, nothing at all. Why-Why do you ask?"

"That confirms my suspicions", I sighed, referring to his unusual response.

Before I could ask Sam anything else, Dean returned from the bathroom and Sam sat up straight with relief due to the interruption. Dean leant against the wall, facing us. Sam held a glass of water to his mouth, waiting for him to say something.

"Sam, I forgot to ask you last night", Dean started, "Have you seen or heard anything about Lucifer recently?"

"Nope", Sam shook his head.

"It just seems strange", Dean said questionably, "I would've thought he would never leave you alone".

"Well, maybe he got bored and moved onto someone else", Sam suggested, his expression neutral.

"Yeah, right", Dean scoffed, "I hate to break it to you but I don't think he'll be moving on so easily".

Sam nodded slightly, looking more nervous this time. I just couldn't figure out why.

"So, Lucifer has disappeared just like that?" Dean asked doubtfully, "What do you make out of this?"

Sam choked on his water all of a sudden which resulted in a small coughing fit. Dean and I exchanged a confused glance.

"Make out?" Sam recovered, holding his throat, "I didn't...What?"

"No, I said what did you make out of this?" Dean repeated, staring at Sam strangely.

"I know", Sam said defensively, "I know that's what you said. What's with all the questions?"

"Sam, we're just having a conversation", Dean told him, "What's wrong with you?"

I watched Sam carefully, not understanding why he looked so anxious.

"I've gotta go", Sam stood up hurriedly.

"No, no, no", Dean walked over to him, grabbing his shoulders and pushing him back down on the chair, "We're not letting you leave again".

"I'm not some kind of prisoner", Sam argued.

"Not yet", Dean informed him, "But you will become some kind of prisoner if you run into Lucifer anytime soon and I ain't letting that happen".
