Chapter 2

~Today~

Julian

- Nice job Julian.
My coach said as we finished today's match. Another victory. That was good.
Everybody congratulated me since I was the one scoring twice tonight. But the truth is we played with a not so good team. For example we had a difficult match next weekend with Bayern. I wish we could win as easily as we won tonight.

- Here's my hero.
Vanessa said as I entered to our house. She kissed me and I remembered again that she was in a good mood today because she had some news about her new film.
Vanessa was my girlfriend and she was a filmaker. She was really successful and I had to admit she was doing great.
- It seems like we won.
I said pretending that it wasn't a big deal.
- Yes, I saw the match. And I've heard that next weekend you have a game against Bayern which means we travel to Munich.
- You're coming ?
I asked surprised. It's not that she wasn't a football fan because she was -besides that's how we met- but she never comes to see any of my matches since she's always busy with her job which I completely understand.
- Well, my movie is going to be in Munich.
She said excited and I felt a little bit insulted. Apparently her first priority was always her job.
- Well done, baby.
I said kissing her and in an attempt to distract her from realizing that I was insulted.

Vanessa and I have been a couple more than two years now. We met when she presented herself as a fan and wanted to sign her an autograph but I know that there's more to the story.
I have a manager and she controls my whole life. Although she tells me every decision she takes she never told me about this one. I'm pretty sure it was her idea. Besides Vanessa and Kim -my manager- are best friends.
Before Vanessa I had a really difficult time getting into a relationship. For many reasons. Firstly, a lot of girls that I had met were interested only in my money and it was easy to understand these girls. But Vanessa was good. We started dating since according to Kim I needed a girlfriend because it had been more than two years that I was single.
Secondly I needed some kind of distraction....to forget her...

- Vanessa will be perfect for you.
I remember Kim saying so many times.
- How do you know that ?
I had asked her. I had a really difficult time to get used to the idea of having a manager.
- Because she's beautiful, nice, famous and think about it Julian she loves you.
I clearly remembered that I had laughed with that. She didn't love me. Not then. Now I knew that she did. And I loved her. I mean I loved her but there's a thing called first love that I couldn't get over it. Cause unfortunately for Vanessa she wasn't my first love. But she had no idea about it. Cause I have never talked to anyone about this. And I don't think I'll ever do. It's a secret. Only for me.
Vanessa is English. She doesn't speak German at all and I'm pretty sure she hated Wolfsburg before dating me.
Not that she had admitted it but after dating her for two years I know her good enough to jump at these conclusions.
The good thing with Vanessa was that we had a good relationship with a few fights.
On the other hand I never had a good relationship with Kim. She was always getting on my nerves like she did today for example when she visited me -uninvited- because she knew that Vanessa was absent and she wanted to propose something that of course got me frustrated.
- Hello Julian.
She said kissing both my cheeks as I opened the door.
- Hello Kim. So what's the important stuff ?
I asked impatiently.
- Julian, can't you be more kind ? You didn't ask me if I want anything to drink....
I interrupted her.
- Do you want ?
- What ?
- Anything to drink Kim.
I replied while rolling my eyes at her.
She laughed.
- Of course. No thanks.
She sat in the couch and I looked at her. I had no idea what she wanted.
- Well ?
I asked again.
- Right. Ummm Julian I think it's time to change some things in your life.
She said looking at me.
- Like ?
- Like your statue.
- I'm afraid I don't get you Kim.
I said while my nerves were starting to get the best of me.
- Your relationship statue I mean.
She said looking at me seriously.
Well, I had a terrible feeling of what was next.
- Vanessa and I we're fine....
- That's why. It's time for you to get engaged.
- No, Kim forget it. We are both too young.
- I said engaged Julian not married.
She said rolling her eyes at me now.
- Maybe Vanessa doesn't want to....
I said although that was definitely a lie. Vanessa wanted that a lot.
- Don't be stupid. Of course she wants it. She had told me so.
She said smiling. So they had discussed it. Damn it....
- Will see Kim. We have an important match next weekend you know and Vanessa is busy with her movie. I don't think it's a good timing.
I said as calmly as possible.
- Exactly it's the perfect timing. Julian you don't get it... you can engage right after your match in the hotel you'll stay because I had booked the best hotel in Munich just for this event.
Kim said being a little more excited than she should.
She had already booked the hotel, she had already made the preparations, like always she was one step closer. Without asking me. Again. She was just informing me. And she did so because she knew that I wasn't ready to get engaged. So, she did everything and now I can't deny.
- It seems like you have organized everything.
I said being upset again.
- Of course.
She said being proud of herself.
- So why do you ask me Kim ? You have already do what you should and you just informed me.
I said but I don't think she understood that I was sick of all this situation.
- I'll leave. Check the hotel I booked for you. You'll stay in a different hotel than your teammates but they can come to the event.
- I'm sure they won't miss.
I said sarcastically.
- Excuse me ?
- Nothing. Thanks again Kim. You can leave now....
I said leading her to the door and opening it for her.
- Wait, I want to tell you something else.
- What ?
- Vanessa knows it actually I mean about your engagement but because they'll be reporters there in the ceremony we'll pretend that it's a surprise.
I rolled my eyes. She only fucking cared about fame....
- Okay.
I said in an attempt to control myself and not punch her in the face.
- You agree ?
She asked surprised.
- I don't care about the fucking ceremony Kim. I'll be engaged because that's what you wanted.
I shouted but then I closed my eyes. That was a mistake.
- We can change it if you....
- No. No. I'm sorry you're right. Yes. Thanks for everything. You are always one step closer. We'll discuss it with Vanessa.
I said and before her saying anything I closed the door leaving her outside.
You see that was the problem with being a public person. A bunch of managers control and ruin your life. And why ? Because I wanted to play football. Because I was good at it since I was young. And then in high school I took it more seriously and when I turned eighteen I signed up for my football carrer. I didn't know that I signed with a life full of managers. But I had to risk everything since there are two things that I love in my life. Football and .......her.
