Chapter 3

~When we were in high school~

Lila

- Which is better ? I mean which suits me the most.
Brine asked as if I haven't understand her question.
- I don't know. They are both good on you.
I said not paying much attention at her. As she promised she came to my house to choose clothes for tomorrow's party. But I didn't choose with her. I was looking something in my phone. Some texts. Okay fine I was checking Julian's texts.
- Help me Lila.
She said staring angrily at me.
- I told you they are both good on you.
I said leaving my phone checking her. Well, I was wrong. At least the one she was wearing looked terrible on her.
- What am I going to do ? I don't even have a date and everybody's got.
She complained staring down.
- No, I don't.
I said. It was true. Kind of. I mean Julian, Brine and I were not considered a date.
- Yes, and what about Julian ?
She asked.
- He is not my date.
- Perfect. Can he be mine ?
- What ?
- Relax Lila.
She said bursting out laughing.
- It's not funny you know.
I said and I think I have blushed.
- Your reaction was. Do you like him ?
Did I ? I had no idea. He was handsome. He was clever, he was funny. I don't know. Maybe I liked him. But just like him.
- I don't know.
I finally admitted.
- I think that he likes you.
- Maybe he's just friendly.
- Maybe....and maybe not.
Brine said winking at me.
- I don't know. But I would like to know.
- Yeah, you know what ? I'll give you some space. I won't come with you tomorrow.
- But will you go alone ?
- No. We will go together. Tell him not to come from here but when we arrive at the party I'll leave you alone.
- Okay. But I can still....
- Just do it Lila.
She said and it wasn't a request.

Oliver -Valerie's date for tonight- came to pick all three of us.
- Be careful. Don't drink or talk to any boy. That's for you two.
My father said pointing out Brine and me.
- Valerie can do both.
He said closing the door behind us. He was kidding but you never really know with my father.
My parents were never strict with boys issues but you never know. My father works in the biggest business company in Wolfsburg and my mother is a doctor.
Brine was trying to flirt with Oliver but he was ignoring her most of the time. Okay, I know that she's my best friend but she was acting ridiculously now. It's not a big deal that she didn't have a date for tonight. Besides I didn't have a date either -at least not a normal one- .
Arriving at the party I immediately spotted Julian with his friends and some girls laughing at something.
Julian noticed me and waved at me and I did so. I tried to go towards him but another boy named Jeremaya noticed me.
- Hi Lila you're beautiful tonight. Okay you always are but it's difficult for someone to say that when wearing a uniform.
- Yes, that's true.
I responded looking at Julian. He was staring at us but when he noticed that I did so he looked away immediately.
- Do you want to dance ?
Jeremaya asked me his words caught me by surprise.
- I....
I started saying pointing at Julian but he interrupted me.
- No. I don't have a date. Don't worry.
He said grabbing my hand and leading me to the dance floor.
We started dancing and I tried my hardest to spot Julian but it was impossible. When I finally noticed him -Kat a girl from the group they were previously was trying to flirt with him- .
I tried to ignore them but I just couldn't stop staring.

After a lot of dance with Jeremaya I headed to the bathroom. My hair was a mess -not a surprise it always is- .
Kat was there with some of her friends saying that tonight was the big night cause she was sure that Julian and her would be a couple after that.
- Yes, whatever.
I said and when I realized what I said I bit my bottom lip.
- Excuse me ?
Kat asked raising an eyebrow at me.
- Nothing. I wasn't talking to you Kat.
I said but from the look on her face I understood that I had fucked up.
- So who did you talk at ?
She asked.
- None.
- Okay, you know what I like you Lila you know that but I think that you're jealous because I'm Julian's date tonight. And maybe you like him since I have seen you talking in Maths. And you were way too friendly.
I was about to punch her face.
- You know what Kat ? You're right. Julian and I talk a lot and in one of our talks he asked me to be his date tonight.
I said pointing at her the messages in my phone.
- You're lying.
She said looking at my phone shocked.
- I'm not as you can see.
- You made these texts just to get on my nerves. If you're saying the truth let's go and ask Julian.
She said raising an eyebrow. Fuck....
It's not that I was lying it's just the way I acted tonight maybe would make Julian say that I was.
And I knew Kat. She wouldn't give up easily.
- Let's go then.
I said accepting her proposal.
We headed to Julian. He seemed surprised seeing the two of us together. I avoided looking at him. I know that I was acting childish. I was so embarrassed.
- Julian were you supposed to have a date with Lila tonight ?
Kat screamed so that everybody nearby could stare at us.
Julian looked at me. He wasn't angry. If I'm not mistaken.
- Julian ? No way ? Lila danced with me the whole night.
Jeremaya said putting his hand around my neck.
I rolled my eyes. Now it had all been fucked up....
- Excuse me Kat but of course Julian had a date with Lila tonight. Now you better back off.
Brine said looking angrily at her.
Perfect....
- Julian ?
Kat asked again looking at him.
Julian looked at me again.
- Yes, Lila was my date tonight.
He said still looking at me. I felt relieved.
- But....
Kat said shocked.
- I'm sorry bro....I had no idea.
Jeremaya said looking at me and backing off. Everybody was staring at us and I felt weird. Brine might understood that and screamed that the party was at the dance floor and all of them head to the dance floor except Kat who was staring at us.
- Let's go.
Julian said grabbing my hand and leading me outside.
- I'm sorry for that.
I said and I felt like a complete idiot.
- It's okay.
He said staring at me.
- Well, I know that I was a terrible date tonight although we didn't really had a date.
I said laughing.
- Indeed you were but I don't mind.
He said touching my face.
- What are you going to do for that ?
- What do you want me to do Lil ?
- I don't know.
- Well, I want to tell you something. Actually I like you. Yes, I like you. Won't you say anything ?
He asked as I didn't respond.
- I don't know what to say. But I like you too Julian.
I said. Yes, I liked him. It was the truth.
He smiled.
- Good.
He said and he leaned to kiss me.
Our lips touched. Best kiss I ever had.
- So are we a couple now ?
I asked and he smiled.
- Do you want us to be a couple ?
- Sure.
I said looking at him.
- Then we are.
He said kissing me again.
We headed again inside Julian still holding my hand. Valerie raised an eyebrow when she saw us but then she smiled.
And that's how Julian and I got into this relationship.
