Chapter 9

~Today~

Lila

- Can we discuss somewhere else ?
Julian asked still holding my hand.
- Yes, I would like to but I work till late tonight.
I responded smiling.
- What time do you finish tonight ?
He asked.
- Ten.
- We still have time for dinner.
He said.
- Okay but.....
I paused.
- But what ?
- I have to tell that to Thomas.
- What's the matter with Thomas ?
He asked being mad and pulling his hand of mine. I tried not to look at it.
- Nothing, I swear. I mean I don't owe you any explanations but you know.....I just told Thomas to pick me up tonight and I have to cancel it.
I explained looking away.
- Yes, you better do.
He said still mad. Was he jealous or I thought so ?
- I'll cancel it Julian.
I said smiling. He looked me in the eyes.
- Okay. I'll wait.
- And what about your girlfriend ?
I asked remembering the conversation I had with his manager.
- Vanessa.....is busy.
He said but I think he was lying.
- Okay.
I said smiling back at him.
- I'll come here at ten.
He said kissing my hand. I blushed and I almost forgot to breathe. He was a real gentleman.
He winked at me while leaving and I looked around afraid that someone may saw us.
And indeed someone saw us. Meghan came toward me with a raised eyebrow.
- What the hell was that ?
She asked being obviously confused.
- Nothing....he....you know....he.....
- He asked you for dinner ?
She asked looking at me in the eyes.
- We need to discuss....something.
I said avoiding her eyes.
- Lila what the hell is going on ?
She asked being serious now.
- It's a long story. I swear I'll explain to you sometime.
- Be careful Lila. It's not that I don't trust him it's his girlfriend I don't trust.
She said looking at me.
- I'll be careful I swear.
I said smiling.
- You.....you like him ?
- Julian ? No way.......we are just......
I thought of it. What were we ? How could I explain it ?
Meghan looked at me worried.
- Lila, don't mess with people like Julian. They have so much fame and a lot of people that they know and they can destroy you.
I thought of it. The truth is Meghan was right. And I remembered how his manager have fucked the whole thing up with Cody. Maybe I should cancel the dinner with Julian tonight. But I didn't want to. I wanted to hear what he wanted to say. Because I had thought of it a lot of time. Him talking with me and explaining although I was the one who should explain. Why I left him.....why I didn't try for our relation. For us.
- Lila come here please.
Cody said and I followed her.

- I actually feel....sick.
I explained while talking to Thomas at the phone.
- Why what happened ?
- I don't know. I guess I'm tired.
I lied.
- Okay. I'll see you then.
- Okay.
I said and I hastily hanged up afraid that he was going to ask things I couldn't possibly handle.
- Lies, lies, lies.
Meghan said coming beside me.
- I had to.
- Why ? Thomas isn't your boyfriend.
- I know. But he is such a sweetheart and I can't hurt him.
- You confuse me.
Meghan said laughing.
- Leave things the way they are Meghan.
I said while I saw Julian crossing the lobby winking at me.
- Ready ?
He asked me.
- Yes.
I said looking at him.
I felt bad that I was just wearing my jeans and a t-shirt but I didn't know about the dinner tonight.
- Let's go.
He said and I followed him outside the hotel into his car. He did exactly the same thing that Thomas did yesterday as far as the car's door was concerned. I smiled at him and he smiled back at me. I felt butterflies in my stomach.....like we were in high school again.
- Where to ?
He asked smiling at me.
- I don't know. Where do you want us to go ?
I asked still feeling the butterflies.
- Okay, what's your favourite restaurant ?
He asked making another attempt.
I thought of it a little.
I answered and he drove us at this place.
- You shouldn't have done this.
I said and I couldn't hide my smile.
- I should.
He insisted and he grabbed my hand. I felt weird. Anybody could see us here. I was worried about his relationship with Vanessa.
- Hello, Lila.
Carly had her shift when we arrived.
- Hello Carly.
I said smiling brightly.
- Your boyfriend ?
Carly asked pointing at Julian. Fortunately Carly had no idea about football so she didn't recognize Julian.
- No.
I said but then I looked at our hands. I blushed immediately and Carly laughed.
- Let me help with your table.
She said leading us to a table away from the crowds.
Carly smiled politely. Carly and I were good friends. At least I had made some really good friends here. Carly had her red hair in a ponytail and her skin was filled with freckles. Her black eyes were staring at Julian. Well, he was charming.
- Anything to drink ?
She asked and I looked at Julian.
He ordered for both of us.
- Comin in a minute.
Carly said leaving fast.
- So......
Julian started while I played with my t-shirt silently.
- So what ?
I asked.
- I think you owe me some explanations.
He said and Carly came back with our drinks.
- Food will be ready soon.
She announced and both me and Julian nodded.
- Why did you ask Meghan about me ?
I asked as Meghan had already told me about Julian's behaviour.
- It was the only way to learn some things about you.
- And why did you want to learn about me ?
Julian avoided my eyes.
- Cause....I was curious.
He replied still not looking at me.
- You could have asked me.
- Would you respond ?
He asked raising his eyebrows.
Now it was my turn to be embarrassed.
- Not really.
I finally said.
- You see. I told you it was the only way.
We stared at each other in awkwardness.
Carly came back with our meal and she winked at me.
I rolled my eyes at her but at the same time smiled.
- Enjoy your meal.
She said leaving.
- Where's Vanessa ?
I asked as I tried my dish.
- She works at the moment.
He answered.
- Really ?
I asked.
- Yes, Lila really. That's why we came here besides the match I had yesterday.
I nodded. Deep inside I wish he came for me. But that was stupid he had no idea where was I.
- What is she going to tell if she learns that you're here with me ?
Julian looked at me.
- Honestly Lila ? I don't care.
- You don't ? Then why did you tell your manager that I was rude toward you and that I tried to flirt with you wich bothered you ?
I asked impatiently. He looked at me confused.
- I don't know what you're talking about.
He said and something told me that it was the truth.
- Kim almost payed me yesterday to leave from the ceremony and she told everything to my headmistress.
I said rolling my eyes as I remembered her lies.
- She told you that I said these kind of bullshit ?
He asked raising an eyebrow.
- Yes.
I replied looking at my dish.
- She lied Lila. I don't know why but she lied. I never said such thing.
Julian was mad now. I could understand it from his voice level.
- Okay Julian I believe you.
I whispered as I was afraid of his reaction. I was always scared when he was mad. He couldn't control himself.
- Sorry for scaring you.
He said touching my hand.
- It's okay.
I replied although I was really scared.
- I didn't mean to Lila.
He said looking me in the eyes.
- No problem Julian.
I said again and I couldn't help but stare at his mouth. I really wished he could kiss me right now.
When we finished our meal and he insisted to pay for it he led me in his car again.
- What now ?
He asked and I looked at my watch.
- You should drive me home and then you should go back to the hotel.
I replied as I thought that I could meet him again tomorrow in the hotel. The thought was pleasant.
- I don't want the night to end.
He said as he started the engine. I didn't want either. I wanted Julian to spend the night with me. But I knew that he couldn't. He had a girlfriend and he was also engaged now.
