Chapter 21

~Today~

Lila

- These shoes have hurt my legs.
Meghan said complaining as we were done with today's shopping.
- Obviously because you just bought them.
I commented looking at her brand new shoes.
- Yes, thanks for informing me.
Meghan said rolling her eyes.
- So, how was your date with.....Robert ?
I asked looking at her while she was trying to avoid my eyes.
- Fine.
She said but it was obvious she was lying.
- Okay what happened ? You can't fool me.
I said touching the tip of her nose.
- Okay fine. I don't know......it was weird....I mean......I felt a little awkward and I don't really know why.
I nodded.
- So, you two won't go on a date again ?
I asked.
- I don't know. I want us to. Maybe we can fix things. You know he's cute what I don't like is that he wants me to do the first move and you know I don't like doing the first move.
She said looking at me.
- Maybe you can try. He's a nice guy. Not that I know him personally but he seems like it.
I said remembering the few times me and Robert had chatted.
- I don't know, I'm confused. What if he thinks I'm boring because the first date went wrong ?
She asked looking at me with her big blue eyes.
- He won't, believe me you're an interesting person Meghan.
I said to cheer her up.
- Thanks Lila. I needed to hear something like that.
She replied smiling at me.
- Maybe you can ask him out this time.
- And what if he says no ?
- He won't Meg. He likes you.
- Please come with me and bring Thomas.
- I can't do such thing Meghan. I'm with Julian.
I said and I couldn't hide my smile.
- Yeah, I totally forgot that. I haven't seen you happy like that in ages.
She commented and I think it was the truth. I had never been happier. I loved Julian since we were in high school. I never stopped.
- I've got to go home.
I said wanting to see Julian as soon as possible.
- Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure you've got better things to do at home.
She said raising her eyebrows emphasizing the word things.
- I know what you're implying.
I said and although I tried to show that I found her comment stupid I blushed remembering the nights Julian and I spend together.
- You've blushed dear Lila.
She said and as I was about to respond I heard Thoma's voice.
- Lila!
He said and I turned to face him.
- Thomas hi.
I said without looking at him as I was still mad at how he behaved a few days ago.
- Hi, Thomas.
Meghan said smiling and I think she mostly did it just in case Robert was somewhere near and could watch her.
- Hi, Meghan.
Thomas said still looking at me.
- I'll leave you alone.
Meghan said turning to leave.
- Meghan......
Thomas said and Meghan turned to face him.
- Yes.....
She said and I could hear the expectation in her voice.
- Robert's sitting at a cafe nearby.....
Thomas said looking at Meghan.
- Oh, I'll go and.....find him.
Meghan said while making her hair and heading to the opposite direction as she intended.
- I should also leave.
I said but Thomas grabbed my hand.
- I need to talk to you Lila please.
He said and I nodded.
- You have two minutes.
- Okay, I'm sorry for what happened. I shouldn't have said these kind of stuff. I didn't mean them Lila, you know it. You know me.
- Exactly. I know you. And that's why I didn't get you. You're not the type of guy that acts like that.
I said and he nodded.
- I'm so sorry Lila. It won't happen again. I promise. If Julian makes you happy then you should be with him. After all he's a nice guy.
I looked at him confused. Was he really saying these kind of stuff ?
- Okay Thomas thanks.
I said and I turned to leave again but he followed me.
- Where are you going ?
He asked walking beside me.
- Home.
I responded trying my hardest to ignore him.
- Can I walk till there with you ?
- I prefer not to.
- Are you still mad ?
- I don't believe a word of what you say.
- Why ?
- I don't know.
- But I said what you wanted to hear.
- Exactly.
- Lila, please can we forget it ?
I stopped walking and I looked at him. He was going to bother me the whole day if I didn't say I was accepting his apology.
- Fine. Now stop following me.
- I thought you may wanted some company.
- I don't.
- We're near your house.
- No, we're not.
- Then we're near mine. You can......
- Thomas stop it okay ? I already said that I forgave you. Now leave me alone.
I screamed and he looked at me as if I was crazy.
- Okay, don't get mad. See you soon.
- You won't see me soon.
I whispered but not as low as I'd like to.
- You will Lila.
Thomas said winking at me and I left before he could say anything else.
Almost twenty minutes later I arrived home. I closed the door behind me taking of my shoes and being extremelly tired.
- I'm back.
I yelled but I didn't get any response.
I walked till my bedroom thinking that I could find Julian sleeping or something but he wasn't there. The weirdest part of all was that his things weren't there as well. I searched the whole house but his things were nowhere to be found. I immediately felt sick and my hands started shaking while grabbing my phone and trying to call him. But his phone was shut down.
I felt tears running down my face while realizing what happened.
Julian left me. And I don't know why that surprises me. I would have left me either. Because everything's my fault. If only I had a chance to talk to him and explain him why I hadn't tried for us back then. But it was too late now.
I expected him to leave me earlier.
This relation couldn't work.
After all he was a famous footballer and I was a loser.

I couldn't sleep that night thinking that he may come back telling me that it was a joke and that he never meant to leave me. But this never happened. I cried myself to sleep -when manage to sleep two hours before going to work- .
I thought of calling and saying I was too ill to go to work today but I knew Cody well enough to know that she was going to make me work even if I was dying.
I walked to the hotel and I got changed. I know I looked awfull with my messy hair and my eyes being red after non stop crying but I couldn't do much.
- Lila, you won't believe what......the hell ?
Meghan asked while looking at me.
- Morning Meghan.
- Wait. What's wrong ?
She asked looking worryingly at me.
- Nothing. Everything's fine.
I said with a shaky voice.
- Fine ? You look like......
- I know what I look like. Can we change the subject ?
- No. What happened ?
- I'll tell you later Meghan. Right now I.....
My words were interrupted by my phone's ringing. I was about to check who was it but Cody grabbed it coming from nowhere.
- I said so many times Lila that cell phones are not allowed while working.
She said taking my phone and leaving.
I couldn't respond since I was way too tired to say anything.

- I go change. Are you coming ?
Meghan asked while we finished our shift.
- Yes, just give me a minute.
I said while checking the last bookings at the hotel.
- Lila, what happened ?
Meghan asked reminding me what had happened making me want to cry again.
- It's not important. You wanted to tell me something earlier.
I said in an attempt to change the subject.
- I wanted but I'm pretty sure your problem is more important.
She said touching my shoulder.
- It's nothing Meghan. Tell me about your news.
- I can't tell you if you're like that. I don't want me to be happy while you're sad.
I was afraid to respond because I was about to burst out crying. Then I thought of what Meghan told me.
- You said you're happy. I bet Robert has something to do with that.
I said faking a smile.
Meghan turned red.
- He asked me on a date again.
She admitted smiling.
- Really ? I'm so happy for you.
I said hugging her.
- You'll tell me what's going on. Won't you ?
- Later. Go get changed I'll catch you up.
I said and she smiled at me before leaving.
I was about to head to the room we change as well, when a hand touch mine.
- I told you I was going to see you again.
Thomas said smiling.
