2023 Opinion
I want to like this ship so badly, but I have some concerns. On one hand, Ginny's similarities to Ron (both physically and emotionally) could make her an option for Hermione, and I have no doubt that Ginny would find her attractive. Not to mention their obvious friendly relationship and close proximity to each other which makes for a sweet and fluffy story.
On the other...Unfortunately, Hermione is patronising and a little condescending towards her, likely because she takes on more of an advisory role (like an older sister or aunt). Hermione's love language of fussing and nagging would only infuriate Ginny, who clearly despises being treated as delicate or childish, as we see with her relationship with her mother and brothers (Ron, the twins, and Percy to be specific). This in itself does not bode well for the ship.
While Hermione and Ginny do become friends through Ron, there's no evidence they were particularly close. For example, Hermione advises Ginny on her budding relationship with Harry, but we never see her confide in Ginny about her romantic — or even just personal — life. Seeing as this role is less romantic (or even platonic) and more maternal — and considering Hermione's treatment of Ginny — it is unlikely to progress to a romantic relationship.
Another important point is that Ginny is frequently annoyed by Hermione's antics. We see her openly disagreeing with her behaviour and taking Harry and Ron's side over hers. She clearly does not like Hermione's bossiness, nor her self-righteous, somewhat mean, behaviour. I'm not 100% Ginny could tolerate Hermione for the time a romance requires.
Even if it did progress past that point, the aforementioned condescension of Hermione towards Ginny would end badly.
This is a ship that I desperately want to like, but I don't think it would happen, or, if it did, that it would last.
Rating: 3/10.
