We stepped out the cafeteria at the same time Gabriela was walking in. She seemed confused by us leaving the cafeteria room before the bell rang. She pointed towards the guys as if she was trying to put the puzzle together as to what happened.
"Why are the guys looking at us like something bad went down?"
"Cause we are rebelling." I said, keeping my chin high. They weren't going to keep abusing our work. We kept the game running and the teachers from believing the rumors going around the school about the active sex life the guys in Roosevelt high have.
"Against what?"
"Xavier doesn't want to give us the passes to Williams party, so we decided to quit helping them." Demi responded, smacking her lips together.
Her mouth turned into an o-shape. She began to rub the back of her neck, nervously. "William gave me a pass personally." She confessed.
"What?" I demanded.
Legends and coaches get along, but they don't mingle. Being friends with my brothers friends is one thing, but secretly seeing them behind our back is a different thing. The girls can't forget who these guys are. Their sweet and cool to party with, but it doesn't change the active lifestyle they have.
"You're seeing William?" Maria stole the words out of my mouth.
Gabriela quickly shook her head, realizing she made a mistake confessing what she did. Gabriela can be considered the quiet one in the group. She's part of our group and she enjoys socializing with us. Most of her time is consumed by helping out at home. Her mom is a single mother and she has a younger brother who is taken care of by her grandmother. She'll go out with us occasionally, the times she doesn't is when her grandmother is too tired to look after her brother. I always felt she feared us even as her friends. She shouldn't though, we aren't the mean girls in school.
Kinda. That's if you consider what we do to help the guys as mean then we are the bitches of the school. Regardless, I wouldn't hurt my friends.
"We aren't seeing each other. He's been tutoring me in chemistry. I've been failing the test and he offered to help. We've gotten close but nothing has happen. I swear."
I dropped my shoulders down and shook my head. I'm no one to decide who my friends can and cannot date. If they want to date a legend even with the reputation the guy has, I can't stop them.
"You can tell us what's going on. If William is into you and you feel the same way, we will support you." I smiled.
Gabriela looked at all three of us, timidly. "We've been dating for three weeks now..."
"Really?" Demi face lighten up.
She nodded. "He's everything I can ask for. He isn't what all these girls say he is."
Maria was the first one to hug her. "That's great! You're the first girl ever to date a legend." She squealed.
Gabriela looked over at me. "I wanted to tell you about it but you seemed overwhelmed with everything happening in your life. Plus, I didn't know how to tell you."
"Don't worry about it." I understand how somethings are better off kept to yourself. I hadn't told them about my drunk kiss with Ale two weeks ago. I know where Gabriela is coming from. She wanted to keep her relationship a secret and I don't blame her for doing it so. William is the captain of the football team, there are girls waiting to date him. Ever since I've met William he's never seemed like the one to settle down.
"I forgot my textbook for my next class. I'm going to get it. I'll see you guys in class." I turned around and headed towards my locker.
I want the best for all my friends and in my opinion the legends aren't the best for them. These guys have been manipulating girls for years, so they know how to make a girl be convince they changed their ways. I don't trust them, even if they are my friends.
In the playbook each legend has a page and within that page there's a chart. If the guys continue to sleep with girls we place a tally mark in the chart. Demi has had the book for a few weeks since she wanted to go through it to see the future legends. If William has slept with any girl since Gabriela and him started dating than it's marked. Opening my locker I pulled out the book from the shelf and turned the pages to where William was, looking down at the chart, he hasn't slept with any girl since the beginning of the semester. Nor have I seen him around the school flirting with girls.
"I really do like her." I heard someone say behind me. I closed the book quickly and turned around. William was leaned up against the lockers, with his hands in his pockets. "I overhead the disapproval in your voice when Gabriela told you. I don't expect you to believe me, after all I am a legend." He rolled his eyes.
"I have to make sure-" He raised his hand stopping me.
"You're her best friend and I respect how you feel. I'd be the same way. You have to understand my decision though. I like her and she trusts me. That's all I care about. Everyone's opinions are irrelevant to me. I'm not fixing to screw up a relationship I worked hard to build." The sincerity fell from his lips.
"Okay. I'm sorry for doubting you. "
He took a step towards me and opened his mouth getting ready to say something but he hesitated. "You do know a guys reputation with girls has nothing to do with how he may feel towards you right? One of the biggest assholes in the world with girls can be the sweetest person with the right girl. Your perspective of guys is pretty pathetic. The world doesn't revolve around you and this game we play. There's a lot more to learn from someone than their past sexual partners. Anyways, with that being said, I quit the game."
You ever have those moments where someone hurts your feelings but you feel relief as if that's what you needed to hear?
I didn't say anything to him. I didn't know how to respond. He scratched his head, frowning a little. "That was too harsh. Im sorry. You know I care a lot about you and the girls." He wrapped his arms around me, giving me a hug. "You're still going to be my favorite." He muttered.
I laughed. "Better be. I trust you William. I guess I didn't think I'd ever see a legend settle down."
"If that's how you think Juliana, then you haven't learned the concept of the game at all."
