Part Two:
Welcome to Florida, the sunshine state.
Alejandro's wish was granted we made it to Florida by sunrise. I expected Alejandro to stop at a hotel, I figured it's where we would be staying at. Yet, he passed the strip of hotels and took a road off the main highway. For a moment I was confused as to where he was taking me, he seemed to me familiarized with the way he was going since he kept making turns and stops. It wasn't until we were in front of a large duplex, he said where we were at.
"My uncle has a condo here and he comes down to Florida only during the summer. He gave my dad a spare key whenever he comes here for work. When we went to my house I stole the key from his desk." He smiled tiredly.
"Do you think they'll bother looking here?"
He shook my head. "And if they do, we will leave again, somewhere farther."
"Until I'm ready to go back?"
He nodded. "Yeah. Come on, let's grab our bags and go inside I'm exhausted." He yawned.
Alejandro got off first and I remained inside the truck. The reality of what I had done sunk in big and clear: I run away. I didn't just run away but Alejandro came along. Oh, I am in huge trouble. Thousands of scenarios rushed to my head of ways my parents were going to punish me. In how disappointed Aunt Vivian is right now because I bailed out on my own party. Family came from different parts of the country to come celebrate with me and I did this.
As much as I tried to feel guilty for leaving, I couldn't because deep down I didn't regret leaving. For so long I have been trying to keep my family together and I've tried gluing us back together with super glue, yet it wasn't enough and I understand that now. No matter how hard I tried to keep us from falling apart it wouldn't matter, life had a different course. In the process of trying to keep everyone happy, I neglected myself and ended up hating the skin I was in.
So what if everyone back home is worried and angry I stormed out. I finally did something I wanted to do and it's never felt so satisfying. I turned towards the back of the car to get my bag but Alejandro had already gotten it for me. With a loud sigh, I opened the truck and got off.
For a brief moment, Alejandro and I took in the salty hot air and continued our way into the duplex. The swift of cold air hit my face waking me up from the small slumber state I was going into. I looked around the lobby and nothing stood out to me. There was a front desk on the left side and a little seating area on the right. We were greeted by four elevators on each side of us. Alejandro took the one to the left and we waited quietly for it to get here.
"I am ready to knock out," Ale said as we stepped into the elevator.
"Makes two of us," I muttered. I had been in the dress for a total of twelve hours and it was time for me to slip out of it and get into comfortable clothes.
Suddenly, the doors opened and Alejandro stepped out and I followed him down the hall until we came to the door with the number 905 written in black bold numbers. Alejandro opened the door and let me go inside first, I dropped my bags beside me and looked around the area.
The first floor was spacious, as soon as you enter the door you are inside the living room. A large black love seat couch was on the left-hand side, a round dark brown coffee table was in the middle, and a large plasma television was hanging on the wall. Half of a wall divided the kitchen and living room and in the entrance was the medium size glass table.
The place wasn't fancy looking and I wasn't expecting for it to be. Knowing Alejandro's family well, they don't like showing off their money by materialistic things. They like showing who they are becoming by prospering in life. Although at times they do buy cars or move to nicer homes, they stay humble.
