From a very far distance, I could hear bickering but I couldn't distinguish the voices, the buzzing sound was gone yet it was still hard for me to listen. Slowly, I opened my eyes taking in the visionary in front of me. I remembered everything and it was logical I was in the hospital after passing out. Turning my head to the side I saw my parents arguing with Alejandro and Mindy, while Xavier stood on the other side of the door beet red.
What was going on?
I opened my mouth wanting to ask why they were all upset, but the realization sunk in, I still couldn't hear. They weren't whispering among each other, my mother hands were in the air and Alejandro kept putting his hand in front of him trying his best to calm her down. They weren't far away to hear them from a distance like my brain was registering.
"I'm sorry for keeping....promise," Alejandro said. I continued to strain myself to hear what they were saying, trying to ignore the knot tightening in the middle of my stomach.
"If you cared...you...kept...secret!" My dad's voice sounded way too deep in my head. I pushed myself off the bed and turned to look at them.
"I can't hear clearly it's hard." I didn't recognize my own voice. It sounded like a chipmunk voice over was spitting out the words for me.
In an instant, they stopped bickering and turned their attention towards me. My eyes landed on Alejandro who had a guilty look on his face and by the looks of it, the unclear sentences I had heard were placed together. Alejandro had to tell my parents about my little incident with Luke and they weren't happy with him. My mom hurried towards me and placed her hands on my face, giving me kisses on my forehead.
"I'm okay, mom" I assured her. I wanted to explain myself as to why I kept my little emergency room trip a secret from them, although I doubt they'd feel any less angry by the sudden secrets Alejandro or myself have been keeping from them.
"You're in big trouble, young lady!" My dad said firmly, before relaxing a bit and giving me a kiss on my head.
"I am sorry." I stared at them. I'm starting to learn keeping secrets from them isn't the best thing for me to do. Sooner or later my secrets keep being exposed and my grave is getting deeper into each lie. In no time I will be laying myself in there when I truly screw myself over.
The door opened and Greg and Xavier came inside. By the look on Greg's face, there was something wrong. My eyes went down to the red folder in his hand and his fingers were gripping tightly on to it. Their voices came in waves and it became impossible for me to even try to make out what was going on.
Greg came over to me and he placed the folder on the edge of the bed. "It's hard to hear me, right?" I read his lips.
I nodded. "Are you in pain?" He kept his question simple.
"My head hurts, not too bad though." I gave him a reassuring smile.
"Okay, I will give you pain medicine, nothing too strong."
I nodded again. "What's wrong with me?" I pointed to myself.
Greg licked his lips. "I'm not sure, we need to do some further testing."
He squeezed my arm and walked over back to my parents. I watched them all leave with Alejandro and Xavier staying behind. Xavier handed me my cell phone and I saw he had sent me a text message.
X: I am beyond pissed off with Alejandro and you, if it weren't for grandpa nearly kicking my ass I would've gone to kill Luke for what he did!
He had put Alejandro in the group message too since he sent a message right away.
A: I explained to Xavier on what happened at least from what you have told me. I had to call Maria and let her know what had happened to her brother and you since she kept asking how you were doing.
