Chapter 17: Healing

Shelby's POV

I was now actually getting scared. I had a sword but I refused to use it. I knew I couldn't stay behind this shield forever but it felt like my best bet. Now Alex and Cory were tag teaming me. They would switch between me and Nick every so often. Starting a move in front of Nick the appearing in front of me, finishing the move. At one point Cory had stabbed me in the back of the leg which now ached in pain.

Alex was in front of me now she swung her sword at my face and I didn't dodge in time. Her sword scraped my cheek,if she wanted to, she could have killed me, but she didn't. When I looked into her purple eye, I saw the same darkness when I saw Cory loose control and give in to the darkness. I see... loss. Then she hit me with the flat side of her sword causing me to fall on my butt. She teleported and Cory then jumped at me and pinned me to the ground. I looked to my left, and saw Alex with her sword raised to Nick's chin. Then I looked back at Cory. He brought his knife to my throat and had a crazy look in his eye, a look saying it wouldn't matter if I live or die,if he lived or died. Then I closed my eyes. Waiting. Soon I heard laughing, I opened my eyes and Cory was now off of me laying on his back laughing. I turned and saw Alex had her sword resting on her shoulder and was smiling to, trying to hold back her tears.

"Did I miss some kind of joke?" Nick questioned.

Adam and Jin had stopped fighting. And we're now staring at Alex and Cory who were laughing.

"Fight!" Adam ordered.

Cory and Alex immediately stopped laughing, Cory quickly got off the ground and held his sword up. Alex now held her sword out at Nick, with her left hand open as if she was ready to blast him.

Cory attacked me and said laughing,"You need to fight back." And he swung his sword and missed. I could tell he was attacking carelessly now. He was being sloppy.

"Where do you think, you are gonna get with mercy!?" He yelled. "It gets you no where." He said then slammed his shoulder into me making me fall. He raised his sword up high, ready to strike down at me. I didn't think he would, but he did. I saw it again, the loss in his eyes, then I did the unbelievable. I screamed and dug my own sword into his stomach. He made a gargling noise and collapsed on me. He was bleeding on me and it was really gross. I let out a shriek when I looked at my hands and saw they were covered in blood. Uni ran at us and slid on the dirt practically throwing himself at us. He flipped Cory over and looked at the wound. He then ripped the end of his pants and stuffed it in the wound. "Place pressure here." he commanded me.
Nick now was watching with Alex by his side. Adam was looking really worried to. Jin came over with his book.

"I was reading and saw some healing spells, it says the life user could use them, is that true." He said looking up at Red.

"Yea but I don't know if she is ready to use the spell." Red said. "I guess it is now or never though."

"I am not loosing this idiot again, we just got him back." Uni said while looking at me straight in the eyes.

"What do I do?" I asked Jin.

"I don't know." He flipped through pages in his book. " Just uhh put your hands on the wound and uhh, think happy thoughts I guess." Jin said.

I put my hands on Cory's bloody stomach. He shuttered when I touched the wound but his smile did not fade one bit. I shut my eyes and tried to think of puppies. What am I doing I thought, actually think of something meaningful. All I could though is think of the fact that I stabbed somebody, I probably killed him. As if reading my mind Cory said," If you hadn't, I would of killed you. I told you, you need to fight back." I shut my eyes even tighter this time. And I thought even harder, I thought of my family, Ross and all the good things we did as a kid. I thought of our birthdays and all the fun trips we went on, then I felt a weird tingly feeling in my hands.

When I opened my eyes, Cory was sitting up smiling with his arms in the air. "I'm not dead!" He yelled. Uni and I hugged him. Nick, Adam, and Red let out a huge sigh of relief. Alex gave me a smile with a nod of appreciation. When me and Uni stopped hugging Cory, he stuck his hand in the hole in his shirt.

"Wow Shelby in a life and death situation, you may actually live, and that is coming from a guy who has cheated death in the face for about 5 or 4 times now... No wonder why I was given death." Cory said with a grin then stood up.

"You are absolutely nuts." Uni said.

"And ya know, you are absolutely right." Cory responded. "Adam said fight so I fought. At least it got are pacifist to not be so... well pacifist." Cory said.

"More like traumatized." Jin said looking Cory up and down who had blood all over his shirt. Then he looked at me.

I looked at my clothes and saw I was covered in Cory's blood. It was all over my hands as well. I stood up but got really light headed.

"Wow slow down, that drained a lot of your energy." Red said "Ross, take her to her room and make sure she gets some rest. I'm gonna talk to Cory, Adam, and Alex."

'Aww not me?" Nick said.

"No." Jin said and grabbed Nick's shirt pulling him inside. Rex was just sitting on the porch by himself, he was looking over to where everyone was,but could not move with the injured leg. Red,Adam, and Alex left. Ross took me to the room and I saw Uni helping Rex up as we went upstairs. His words still echoed in my head."I am not loosing this idiot again, we just got him back." Uni had said.
