~ Demi ~
"You're too late sweetheart, she's long gone."
Those words practically paralyzed me as I stood gazing across the few hundred feet which separated me from that woman I only knew from the warehouse. Her hair had been pulled into a ponytail, her arms crossed and eyes focused. I couldn't think straight. I would typically blow something like this off and ignore it, but I felt drained.
"What do you mean gone?" My voice hardly broke beyond a whisper. The pounding that went on in my head couldn't overpower the dread that flowed through me.
"Just as I said, gone."
"What did you do to her?" It was hard for me to even breath as a small cackle left the woman.
"Lets talk shall we?!"
"Lets not." I rose the pistol which laid under my palm. There was no way my aim would be off, and yet there was something in her eyes that made me waver.
"I didn't say she was dead now did I? Besides, if I wanted her executed trust me darling, you would of met her body upon your arrival. Now lower that toy and follow me." The woman was so full of herself, turning her back and disappearing inside. I wasn't a fool, there was no way I would follow such a tactic. The fifteen or so men which decorated the lawn of the three homes gazed at me awaiting my next move. I slowly brought my finger over the trigger, pulling it would be a piece of cake.
"The longer you stand out there, the less of a chance she'll have." I heard the woman yell. My skin crawled from fear, and I hated the feeling. I could no longer hide behind a tough exterior. I honestly wanted to burst out into tears. Weakness was pushing it's way to my surface and I hated myself for it. I kept my gun in front of me as I took it a step at a time towards the house. Joe and Nick would be after me on foot, but making it twenty miles would take some time, even for trained professionals. The men outside stayed where they were told as I met the woman.
"This is what's left of my operation." She began, walking towards the endless sea of computers. "You single handedly took down my group without batting an eye back in Mexico."
"Your people tried killing me!"
"That they did. But let me shine a little light on your plight, shall I? First off, my name is Sarah. You are agent 727, Demetria Lovato, born to agents 23 and 74, correct me if you hear any inconsistencies. At the age of five you were inducted into your Agency and given the identity of 727. You were trained in multiple languages, arts and skills and even rated the highest out of all of your training classes. Just around three years ago you were trained in coding which is where your problems came to a head."
"You did your research."
"No sweetie, I too have been given a mission. Now let me continue." Sarah paced the space as I noticed steps leading up to an attic.
"Is Selena up there?" I hadn't lowered my gun and wasn't planning on doing so anytime soon.
"She was. But I allowed her to leave and well, things happen." Sarah found a small chair and sat down. "Please Demi, sit."
"What happened to Selena?"
"First, my story." She sighed, pushing a rolling chair towards me as I stopped it with my foot. The front door was still open, and I could be ambushed at any moment. There were no visible clear windows to leap out of. I pondered on sitting and listening to this woman, but finally did so with caution.
