~ Demi ~
My own silence deafened me. For a moment, I no longer stood in front of a group of agents wielding guns. No. I stood in an empty space which held nothing and lead nowhere. I couldn't breath. I couldn't see, at least, I couldn't see anything in front of me. Once I took a breath my head began to pound as it caught up with my heart. A shadow cast its way over my vision as I blinked. The air smelled of strong ammonia as I tried focusing on the man in front of me. No father would put their child through this. At least not to my knowledge.
My ears began to buzz just shortly after ringing. I could hear speaking, someone was saying something. I was too dazed to even notice. The second Joshua grabbed my sore arm, shaking me once, I angrily gripped his elbow and pulled down as tightly as I could. My body was numb. I couldn't feel a thing as I forced the man towards the ground before a weapon came straight for my face. One of Joshua's fellow agents tried to knock the butt of the gun against my skin, but instead received me pulling the weapon from his hand. I was no match for bullets, so I quickly unloaded the steel.
A silent tapping was the first clear sound I could hear as each bullet fell against the tile below. Joshua shot up with fire in his eyes, his anger evident as I matched it. There was no way in hell I was going to go easy on him. But he stood, dusting himself off before calling for his men to hold me down. A new burst of sirens filled the air just as the screen displaying Joe disappeared. The lights in the dome slowly began to fade.
"Take her." Joshua waved his hand as one man after the other attempted to hold me down. I fought each of them tooth and nail, knowing that if I couldn't see Joe again, I was going to make them all pay. But what pierced my soul most, was knowing that Selena was some where near, yet unreachable. I still didn't understand how or why I was a weapon. But hearing those words fall from Joshua's lips hadn't surprised me. But if I was a weapon of sorts, I wanted to know what I would be used for.
"Stop resisting!" Joshua yelled, finally raising his own arm up, punching me in the stomach as I dropped forward with a thud. This was definitely something I wouldn't miss about this place. He crouched down near my head, his fingers sliding into my hair before he sucked his teeth. He shook his head a few times, admiring me I suppose before he instructed someone to carry me. I fought through the debilitating pain, pushing myself up on my feet before charging at the man once again. He was the only one who could give me the answers that I wanted, and if he was to die, he would be taking my answers with him.
Gun shots and loud screams filled the halls as I tried focusing on the men still in the room. Without hesitation, one after the other, they began to fire their guns. Some at me, some towards the hall. Joshua angrily yelled for the men to lower their weapons. They did so just like the obedient robots they were. I stepped back, trying to find a way out of this crowded space, but finding none. The odds were definitely against me, but just as the men began to guard the large double doors I began to run. It was a stupid thing to do really, leaving your back exposed to the enemy, but I had to find Selena and Joe.
I could hear thunderous footsteps behind me as Joshua followed. He cursed my name and demanded someone knock me onto the ground. Two out of the five men guarding the door rose their guns. But before a single bullet could freeze me in my step, one of them dropped to the ground. I quickly pulled another man down by his legs as another shot went off. It was almost as if a tune of some sort was playing because with the combination of sirens, flashing lights and guns blazing, the deafening tone in the air became a sort of ballad.
Joshua dived towards me, his arm wrapping around my neck just after I took down another agent. In all honesty it felt more as if he would kill me with his own two hands before he allowed me to leave again. I was confused about what I was needed for, or why I couldn't just be normal. The second I fell towards the ground, Joshua's arms began crushing against my throat. I could hardly breath. My name was called from the hallway, just as Nick stepped into the room. He quickly rose his gun up, his hands angrily gripping his weapon.
