~ Selena ~

It was sometime around noon when I had awoken. Demi no longer lay in bed and once again left me to my own accord. The pine smell of the cabin still lingered in the air causing me to rush and get dressed. I stepped outside only to find Nick holding onto his side. His eyes burned into mine as I smiled at him.

"You're late." He breathed out, hissing before turning. "Follow me."

"No one woke me." I admitted following behind the man as we trailed down the mountain.

"First rule in defense training: there are no warnings."

"What?"

"No one is going to wake you. No one is going to baby you. And if you must learn to protect yourself, realize that it is only you, yourself, that must watch your own back."

"Sounds more like a military drill." I rolled my eyes as the man lead me towards a parked car.

"Get in."

"Where are we going?"

"No questions, just trust me."

"Does Demi know where this place is?" I wasn't too worried to follow Nick to some unknown place, because he protected before, taking a bullet for me and even holding on until we were safe. We came upon some understanding that we would both watch over the other.

"Just get in." He slipped into the driver's seat, taking in a deep breath before I took his side as the passenger. The vehicle was polished and clean as we began driving away from the cabins we were kept in.

"So what is defense training like?" I studied my fingers. The scratches, scars and scrapes from days ago were now almost the color of my skin. Thankfully they were disappearing.

"Defense training helps you to resist attack. I'll start you off easy." Without another word, we pulled over towards a large wooded area. Nick stopped the car, pulling the key from the ignition before facing me. "I've been trained my entire life to resist attack and not to engage. Up until recently I never had to use my training for anything except escaping an escalated situation. Up until you." I watched as the man stepped from the vehicle as I did the same. "Admittedly you've been putting all of our lives in danger and the only way to stop that, is to train you. Are you ready?"

"Yeah." I nodded, remembering back to when I was taken hostage by Sarah and locked away in some darkened attic with computers. I escaped only because they let their guard down. I didn't want to end in such a situation like that ever again. As we made it into the woods, just a few feet beyond the trees, a small cabin appeared as we entered it.

"Tyler said this place has everything that we need." Nick informed me.

Stepping inside of the brightly lit space seemed like a whole new world. The floor held mats which were sprawled all over the place. Gloves, sharp objects and even some smaller items were spread out against the wall, taking place among tables. I studied the area, moving along the room just before Nick closed the door and began pulling off his shoes.

"Should I?" Without word, I did as he did. Removing my shoes before we both took a place among the mat. "So, what's first?" I was eager to learn even a fraction of what the agents knew.

"Read my hands." Nick rose his right arm into the air before tilting his shoulder and tapping it.

"Uh, what is that suppose to mean?"

"It means I'll be coming for your left shoulder. My right, your left. Got it?"

"Okay." I nodded. He slowly walked towards me, demonstrating the technique he wanted me to use. My arms would have to push away his hand, grabbing onto his shoulder, before pushing down hard and knocking him back. I refused to believe that such an action was possible at full speed, but did as Nick instructed a few times. Each time I missed a grab, he would knock his knee against my leg. Obviously I'd complain, but it didn't seem to phase him. He forced his way towards me and each time I'd push back. It was harder to latch onto him then it seemed. One minute turned into one hour and finally, I latched onto his arm, shoving his shoulder down before pushing him away.
