Fourth time's the charm right? I literally typed around 20 pages, because I had rewritten this chapter over four times. Until I was satisfied. 'So fun.' (That's sarcasm by the way.) I'm not in love with this chapter, but hey, what can I do? Write it for another three days? I think not. Also, this will only be chapter 50 and in my documents there are 52. So.... I should probably find which chapters were never posted.

~ Demi ~

The day had drawn to a close, bringing in the night with chilled air and flashing lights. Helicopters were still circling the sky as confused and panicked civilians tried to make sense of the madness happening before them. Selena and I had only made it a couple of blocks from the hotel before I realized we needed a vehicle. I wasn't speaking to her, as simple and unrealistic as that sounded, I couldn't. My head was playing back different training scenarios about instances just as this one, and yet my heart was battling the 'fight or flight' urge I found myself falling into.

"There." I hadn't clarified what I meant when I spoke. Selena had been trying to get me to talk to her ever since Nick disappeared into the brush behind the motel. I took a few steps towards a large black pick-up truck, tugging on the passenger door as the brunette took my side.

"What are you doing? We can't steal a car!"

"We can't." I faced her, finally staring into those dark brown eyes that held onto my every move. "But I can!"

"Demi, just because..."

"Unless you want to walk thirty miles over to the next city." I smirked, as the woman narrowed her eyes, her breaths becoming heavy as she glanced away. I understood that this wasn't a normal thing to do, just taking a car from someone who would least expect it, but I had no choice. "The window of opportunity to get out of this city is very small." I began, trying to assure the woman that even if I wasn't speaking to her on certain terms, I was doing this out of necessity. "Taking down Ludlow was one thing. It sets all of us Agents under them free to a certain extent. But Ludlow was a government agency, so expect chaos to ensue sometime between now and the next few minutes."

"What does that even mean?" I found the woman facing me.

"Expect Marshall Law."

"What?" Selena's brow furrowed as she watched me trail over to the driver side of the truck.

"Soldiers. Expect soldiers. And if it hasn't happened yet, there will be a city wide curfew. There will be no cars in or out of this area, and we have to get as close to the highway as we can before any of those actions take place." Although I had no proper tools to open the truck's door, I studied the surrounding area for something thin and narrow. Selena, although a bit uneasy about the situation, allowed me to find something to pry the steel door ajar. I quickly unlocked the vehicle, taking the driver's seat as the brunette crossed her arms on the sidewalk. "Are you going to get in?"

Although she stayed silent, she hopped into the vehicle and snapped her seatbelt. The sirens of the city silenced themselves before a loud speaker announced a curfew effective immediately. I knew we didn't have much time left to get out of the city, so I quickly began to rip away the panels under the steering wheel as a small gasp escaped the woman at my side.

"What is it?" I questioned, quickly finding the wires I had been looking for. Although this hadn't been a skill I was familiar with, I did however learn a thing or two about starting up cars. I did it before.

"That thing you said about soldiers on the streets." Selena tapped my arm. "I'm not sure it's just soldiers."

"What?" As confused as I was, I started up the vehicle, finally gazing over the dashboard to find a massive crowd running along the road. The wind picked up, the night air turning into a howl. People were making a run for the first building they could force themselves into, and if that wasn't bad enough, in the distance, I could spot a line of men and women marching in a row, making it for the intersection. "Let's see how far we can get." The second I pulled away from the curb, I could hear someone shouting that their vehicle was being stolen.
