~Selena ~

You know how in movies there always seems to be a calm before the storm? That's how it seemed when silence filled the air. I was still barricaded inside of the control room of Ludlow, with Demi, Nick and Joe somewhere else inside of the building. I did everything I could to keep the doors leading into the room I was held up in locked. But after a brief period of silence, pounding began to echo off of the door. I wanted to scream, but what use would that be? My heart was already running at it's own speed as I tapped the computer keys in front of me. With no screen, I was following manual codes by memory.

A single gun shot paused my actions as I stood frozen over the motherboard. My body grew numb just as a rapid amount of loud popping began to repeat one after the other. I fell to the floor, pulling my knees up to my chest as the screams from outside of the door began to fill the space. I could call to Demi through the loudspeaker and yet, I still wouldn't know of her exact whereabouts. I felt a bit shocked to be in this situation again, but it was normal, it was becoming my normal.

"Come out!" Some woman screamed as I tightly shut my eyes, shaking my head over and over again. I could feel my blood grow cold as pounding began to shake the door once again. "Damn it!"

"Selena!" My name. It was called in such a way, I could feel myself shaking. Maybe I had been trembling for a while now, but it didn't hit me until Demi's voice reached my ears. "Open the door!" Her hurried tone caused me to quickly pull myself up to my feet. I found myself wobbling towards the frame as I unlatched the thick lock and found myself face to face with the woman from Beverly. She was an agent of Ludlow that was rescued and now worked for the other guys.

"Follow me." The woman signaled towards the hall with her gun, the barrel pointing directly at me before she lowered it.

"Don't scare her." Demi caught up, quickly taking a breath of relief before her face began to pale. I didn't know how I looked to her, but her arms quickly released her weapon as she pulled me into her. The familiar smell of her perfume tickled my nose as I nuzzled against her chest. She rested her right hand on the back of my head as the woman next to us scoffed.

"We have to go!" Her voice chilled me as I shook.

"Hey, it's okay." Demi assured me, trying to be delicate in her actions although I could feel the stiffness in her. "Charlie, check if it's clear. We have to get Selena out of here."

"I told you, I came to extract her. You go and find your friends." I tried to follow the conversation between the two, but found my ears ringing. I shook my head under the brunette's grip. Demi instinctively guided me backwards, her hands finding my cheeks as she studied my face. I could see the panic and worry in her eyes, but stayed silent as her thumbs began to brush against my cheeks.

"Selena." Her words shook. "I need you to listen to me." There was something about the way Demi focused on me that didn't seem the same as before. "You have to do everything I ask of you. Please." Her voice shook. "I don't have a lot of time to find Joe. I have no clue as to where he is and this facility is gigantic. Nick is supposed to meet me once again and..." Demi eyed the woman at her side. "Charlie here, if needed, will get you out of here."

"I'm not going without you." I finally spoke up, my whispered voice causing a shudder in the woman before me.

"I knew you'd say that." Her half smile pained me. "But this place is wired to explode. I don't know how much time we have left and..."

"Trevor told me about your plan. If I can figure out the current time, I can tell you the moment of detonation." There was a second of clarity when I spoke those words as Demi closed her eyes to take a quick breath. The sirens in the space continued to echo off the walls as the woman pressed her lips against my forehead.
