~Demi~
My mind was still telling me to go after Selena and force her to stay in this house. But part of me was saying everyone was right. I couldn't keep her in this place just because I was paranoid. I only had a few hours of sleep, and I still didn't fully trust the dread which overcame me. Joe hadn't moved either. He stood across from me, silently watching me as I gazed at the door.

"She'll be back before you know it." He spoke up.

"You could of taken my side on this one. Being with Nick or not, the Agents leaving last night and your new found chill is freaking me the hell out." I crossed my arms, angrily biting my bottom lip.

"Remember when we were kids and whenever you did something bad we'd both get in trouble for it?" Joe cracked a slight smile.

"Why are you bringing this up?" I shook my head, watching him shrug.

            "Just thinking."

"Well think quieter." It was as if he could read my mind or something. The memories that flooded me last night began to dawn on me once more in my awaken state. Joe finally closed the front door, pacing into the dining room as I watched him. I refused to move, too nervous about Selena to clearly think.

"Everything I did as a kid I did for you. I wanted you to be happy although that was a concept we forgot about so long ago." Joe sighed to himself.

"Stop talking. You aren't making my nerves any better."

"What do you want to do? Sit in silence until they return?"

"I want to know why you're so calm about all of those Agents disappearing off of my lawn last night." I walked into the living room, sitting on the head of the loveseat as Joe sighed.

"We're doing everything like we use to do. Maybe you're the one that's changed. Not us."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"You're so far gone that even reconditioning won't help you." Joe slid his hand onto the table, grabbing that stupid book from last night.

"I want to ask you something and I need an honest answer."

"Always." He wouldn't look up, flipping through the pages before him as he awaited my question.

"Do you believe me about Onyx?" My voice hardly broke ground as a shrug was given. "Don't you trust me?"

"I don't know anymore." Joe's voice seemed so robotic and eerie.

"So you came here to help me and Selena only to what? Be pissed at me because although you too think something is up with The Agency, you don't believe they have anything to do with Onyx?"

"I came to help you. She just so happens to be the one person you seem to have concern for."

"Joe," I could feel he was unnerved in a way. "Are you working for the Agency against me, or with me?" My question only received a look before I quickly stood. Joe's stature hadn't changed. "Answer me!"

            "What does it matter Demi?"

"If you're working for them, why are you even here? Why help me at all?"

"Because you don't seem to realize, we are a package deal. I am bound to you no matter what..."

"I knew you'd still be caught up on that, because what else do you know? Joe, you're one of my closest friends. But you must learn to let me go."
