~ Selena ~

"Locked out huh?" My mom spoke up as I met her in the kitchen. I paced the space for a while before rolling my eyes.

"I don't know what else I can do to ease everyone's mind about staying here." I sighed, walking over toward the back door, peering out into the brightly covered yard. "The guys seem to be on edge and Charlie....she's just being Charlie." The yard was being trimmed down by my dad, he was making his usual rounds checking the perimeter and warding off weeds in the garden.

"I'm still trying to wrap my head around how you became so involved with such wanted people." My mother spoke up.

"I am one of those wanted people." I admit, running my finger against the cold granite counter.

"Your father and I have done everything in our power to protect you and here you are, searching for danger."

"I didn't search for it, mom." I admit. "It just... it found me. Because of Demi..." I sighed, studying the kitchen and having flashbacks of my childhood in this place.

"Demi?" My mother faced me, her eyebrow slightly raising as I gently gave her a nod.

"Yeah." My words caused my mother to giggle a bit.

"Your father and I saw you two in the garden last night, talking."

"Oh." I blushed, rolling my eyes before whispering. "She's kind of my girlfriend."

"I see." My mother tilted her head as her brown eyes began to sparkle.

"I....our relationship is very complicated but we are dating."

"Like mother like daughter I suppose." A scoff escaped the woman across from me. "Finding danger even where you least expect it."

"I thought we were over that life and death stuff." I sat at the kitchen counter, studying my mom as she nodded for me to go on. "But after destroying Ludlow...I mean...after Ludlow and coming here, we still find complications in our lives. And problems." I roll my eyes. "Like Joe..." I randomly mumble.

"He cares for her." My mother plainly spoke.

"Yeah. They're lifelong battle partners."

"He sees you as a threat. I may not know much about Agents, but out of the four of them, those two are the most human." A smirk escaped my mother before she began shuffling through the fridge. Moments later my dad stepped into the area, a newspaper clutched between his grip.

"My two favorite ladies." He announced, glancing around the room before facing me. "Your friends aren't by your side?"

"They're having a meeting of some sort without me. Using code." I scoffed.

"Are you going to tell your father about Demi?" My mother brought up, turning to face me with vegetables in her grasp.

"Tell me what? That she's not just an Agent, but The Agent?"

"Uh, nothing." I smirked, trying to take hold of the situation as my mother shook her head.

"Okay then." My mom eyed me as I glared towards her.

"Dad, have you thought about what we're going to do from here on out? Everyone copes better with a plan at hand. They don't tend to stay quiet for too long if they have to stay put." I watched as my father paced towards me.

"I want to protect you. Keep you safe." My dad nodded to himself as I studied him.

"I know. But there's nothing that I can do to get out of this one."
