I was exhausted. The room was surrounded in suffocating darkness. As I turned to open my eyes I found Demi struggling to stay asleep. But she was however still within her own dreamland. I brushed my hair behind my ears, climbing from the bed before taking note of the time. It was a little after six as I walked into the closet to grab some clothes for the day. The darkness engulfed me, the previous days practically ramming themselves back into my life. I had never been through so much in such a small amount of time. I was even surprised by my own strength to get through it all. I carried myself into the hall, not wanting to wake Demi. I dressed in the hall bathroom, wearing a powder blue summer dress, giving my scars room to breath. When I stepped into the living room, Nick was asleep. He had his back against the window, his face scrunched up as if he was still deep in thought. Joe however, was wide awake.

"Morning." I waved, his eyes focusing on a book between his hands. "Where did you get that?" I questioned as he finally glanced up. He stood, placing the book on the coffee table before signaling for me to follow him. I was confused on his actions but did so quietly. We stepped into the kitchen as he slid open the patio door. I didn't know if it was such a good idea to follow him outside of the house. But if Demi trusted him, so did I.

"Walk with me." He finally spoke up as the sun slowly rose in the distance. It was still dark, the streetlights breaking through the shadows.

"What's going on? I questioned, following him down the familiar trail I'd take to the town.

"I found a code book among some of the things in the house."

"I didn't have any. We came here with just ourselves, remember?" I smiled, trying to find a soft spot in the guy.

"I've been reading up on some stuff, nothing too major."

            "Oh."

"You can't forget learned skills just as much as I can't forget trained ones." Joe paced a bit ahead of me as I tried to keep up.

            "I'm lost here."

"You're a coder, you still know how to code. That's why Onyx wanted you, correct?"

"I suppose." We stopped in the middle of a field. The house sat up on the mountain in the distance. "Why?"

"Demi is saying things about the people who've trained us. She's speaking about the people who brought us into this life. She thinks you can prove it."

            "How?"

"By hacking into our own systems and digging in a bit deeper." Joe's face was blank, as if he'd been thinking about this all night. "I'll wrangle up a computer and you can do the rest."

"It's not that simple. You can't just use any computer nor any server. It has to have power to it. Basically a computer that can take the amount of tasks we'd be requesting of it. You can't just use some home computer."

"So you need something more like what?"

"I don't know. A computer that can handle point operations of about a million a second."

"Where would you get something like that?"

            "Government facilities."

            "Like ours?"

"I guess." I sighed, crossing my arms just as the morning air began to warm slightly. "Demi wouldn't want me to hack into any more systems. To be quite honest, I don't think I'd want to either. We've been through a lot and..."
