~ Demi ~I faintly smiled at Selena, trying to cover up the mix emotions flowing through me. She could tell there was something up, but I was hoping she wouldn't ask. After everything with Sarah just hours ago, I was feeling all out of sorts. I trusted Nick and Joe. At least that's what I wanted to do. They were the only two people I've known my entire life that never let me down. They were at my side no matter what.
"I was thinking maybe you should shower and change into something other than baggy clothes." I tried to sound calm and collected, but I was far from it. Selena studied me, her brown eyes shifting as if she was trying to decode my madness.
"You just want to talk to Nick and Joe without me interfering." She stated, crossing her arms. It was true, but I wasn't going to let her know she was right.
"The scars need to be cleaned up. I'll help if you want." My words caused her to squint.
"I've got it." As she slowly turned to make it into the bedroom, I found myself sighing. My chest aching. I could feel myself wanting to cry and fall to my knees and just let go. But I didn't. I held my ground. Nick and Joe were standing at my window, gazing out as if something was happening on the other end.
"There's a few things I'd like to talk about." I began after making sure Selena was indeed out of earshot. The people outside the windows had happily sat down, taking a rest as they spoke on phones and joked around with one another.
"What is it?" Joe was the first to speak, his eyes cutting into me as if I should already know the answers to my own questions.
"Did you guys know that I was being hunted?" My voice was brittle, shaking as my best friends gazed at me.
"Hunted, by whom?" Joe asked.
"The Agency. Onyx, what difference does it make? Did you know?" I lowered my voice as Nick scoffed.
"The Agency isn't hunting you down. We just accepted you back, when we know you've had more than your fair share of fuck ups. You've been able to do all of this while the rest of us have to pick up your slack." Nick shook his head. "You're not being hunted."
"I am." I shook my head. "I handled Sarah, but The Agency isn't something I can take down. Its government owned, that's like me going against my entire country." My voice shook.
"That would be treason." Joe had been standing stiffly at his brother's side, not showing any emotions to what I was saying. "But, who's Sarah?"
"Do you remember the first time we went to Guadalajara? When I was trapped in that warehouse and you saved me?" I questioned Joe as he gave a certain nod. "Sarah was the woman who tried to kill me. Apparently I was her target."
"Yeah because she made you her target." Joe focused.
"No, because The Agency made me one."
"Why would they?" Joe sat on the sofa annoyed as Nick stepped up.
"Why would Joshua and everyone want you dead? You screwed up every once in a while and made a few mistakes but...." Nick began to rock on his feet, he couldn't believe the words leaving my lips.
"They wanted me dead from the day I refused to kill my parents. You both should know that more than anyone. I fought for them. You know how bad I had it after the Agency had to do the deed themselves." My throat was drying. I had no time to tend to it.
