He Mentioned You

You had teleported yourself and Steve back to your room inside the hellicarrier, this was too much for you to take in with so little time to even process what was really happening. Steve noticed you were beginning to shake a bit, most likely out of fear. He walked you over to your bed, he asked if you wanted to lay down and you shook your head, instead you sat up at the edge of your bed. He stood in front of you until you patted the space next to you, silently asking him to sit by you. He took your offer and watched you, trying to figure out what was going through your head. He had only met you two days ago, and now he knows most of your life story.

"I thought they were never coming back for me..." You said quietly, gaining Steve's attention. "All this time, I thought they had forgotten about me, but I guess Thor just never found Loki until today." You continued as your voice began to crack slightly.

"How long have you been here for?" He asked softly, he had been curious for awhile, but never asked.

"Over seventy years..." You replied nervously, you knew he wouldn't judge too much since he was a senior citizen himself, but you knew it would still come as a shock to him.

His eyes widened slightly, but he knew it wasn't the strangest thing out there. "So how old where you when they left you here?"

"Eight..." You replied, your voice was becoming shaky again as you began to remember everything once again.

"They left you alone at eight?" Steve asked, his voice was raised a bit but nothing to make you jump, he was shocked.

"Not exactly alone. Thor left me with a man named Abraham, the same man who made you what you are now." You paused, waiting for what you said to sink in for Steve, "I only lived with him for a year though, when Shmidt came in demanding Abrahams serum, Shmidt took me as well. I became a product of Hydra until I was twelve..." You finished, tears forming in your eyes as you looked back into Steve's eyes.

Steve hadn't heard either of those names since he had woken up, but he knew them very well. Steve thought Abraham was a great man, he even knew something that might brighten your mood a bit. Steve gently took one of your hands to hold to gain your attention. "He mentioned you, Abraham did." This quickly caught your attention and your head shot up fast, tears still forming in your eyes. "He talked about how sweet you were, how you would help him around in his lab. He said losing you was the worst day of his life, he even searched for you, but could never find you. He said he loved you like you were his own daughter and it broke his heart to see you dragged away, but he loved you regardless." He finished.

You couldn't believe it, after all these years of wondering what had happened to Abraham when you were dragged away, you finally knew. He searched for you, he really did care about you. The tears began to fall freely as you silently cried. Steve was quick to react to it, he brought his free hand up to wipe away your fallen tears and brought you in for a hug. You let a few more silent tears fall as you rested your head on Steve's chest, he brushed through your hair with one hand and traced soothing patterns on your back with his other hand. After a few minutes of this, you brought yourself back up and wiped the rest of your tears away. "Thank you Steve." You finally said after releasing a shaky breath.

"You gonna be alright?" Steve asked concerned.

"I'll be alright, thank you." You replied. Steve gave you a small smile which you returned. He gave your hand one last squeeze before standing up, lifting you as well.

"What do you say we go tell the others we're here, huh? Don't want them searching for us too right?" He lightly joked. You nodded your head and gave a small laugh in response. Steve opened your door for you like a true gentleman, and you gave him a silent thank you as you exited the room. It was still night due to the fact that it only took you two seconds to get back here, the jet wouldn't be back here till morning. After you had told fury you two were back and the others were on their way, you decided you'd pay Doctor Banner a visit in the lab. He was working hard on locating the tesseract but was still coming up empty.

"Doctor Banner, have you taken any breaks since you've arrived here?" You asked concerned when you saw how exhausted he looked.

"Y/n, Steve, I didn't hear you guys come in. No. No I haven't yet, I feel like I'm so close though." He replied, not even looking from his work. He was frantically moving through the lab. You and Steve looked at each other, if he was this exhausted then it also meant he was on edge and could Hulk out at any moment.

"Bruce..." You began softly to get his attention, "take a break, please? I can take care of this for you for a little while." You explained. You'd worked in labs before, mostly when you lived with Abraham, but you knew your way around them and knew about mostly everything in this one.

"I can't ask you to do that." He replied, fighting back a yawn.

"You don't have to, I'm offering. Now go rest for a bit, I can handle it while you're gone." You said, giving him a small smile.

"Thank you, I won't be long." He said as he walked out of the lab. He knew he needed a break now too. He only planned on taking a power nap and getting something to eat and then coming back, but it was a break nonetheless.

All you really had to do was monitor his work, and if any changes occurred you needed to write them down or get Bruce. An hour went by and there were still no changes. Steve watched as you moved around the lab with ease, it looked as though you knew everything you were doing, even though at one point you were just looking for a pen. He began to notice little things about you while you to were in the lab together. Like the way you would brush your hair behind your ear whenever you were nervous, or the way your nose would scrunch up a bit and you would shake your head whenever you laughed at something he said. The way your eyes would sparkle whenever a topic came up that you loved, or the way they would start to gloss over when something came up about your past. He was slowly falling in love with you and he hadn't even taken you on a date yet. He'd only known you for a few days and already he was wrapped around your finger.

Hours went by, and Bruce had returned from his break but you two stayed in the lab to help him out. Morning had come and the rest of the team had finally arrived with Loki. As he was brought down the hallway by a group of Shield agents, he had a small smirk on his lips. As he walked past the lab he noticed Bruce first, giving him a smile that meant no good. He soon noticed you were there too, and standing next to Steve once again. Loki glared daggers at him, until he was out of sight. Once he was placed in his cell, the three of you left to go meet the rest of the team in the front area. Once you were all out there, you sat at the table and began to watch the security video of the room he was in.

You watched as Fury threatened Loki, telling him what would happen if he tried to escape. Loki only laughed at his attempts to stop him, then came his speech. He began talking about how desperate Fury had to be to call on the Avengers for help. To have the Hulk defend them. How close fury had come to real power. And how the whole world will suffer for taking his daughter away from him and using you against him. Fury had left and the screens went blank.

"He really grows on you doesn't he?" Bruce said from the corner.

"Loki's gonna drag this out. Thor, what's his play?" Steve asked next to you.

"Loki means to unleash an army calls the chittarri." Thor answered.

"An army... From space."

"Our focus shouldn't be on Loki, that guys brain is a bag full of cats, you can smell crazy on him." Bruce butted in, then looked over at you apologetically after he realized what he said.

"Have care how you speak. He is still my brother" Thor shot back.

"He killed eighty people in two days." Natasha joined in.

"He's adopted."

The team bickering back and forth was getting them no where. No closer to finding the cube and no closer to stoping Loki's army from coming in. "He needs to be stopped regardless, so until all of you come up with a plan, I'll be creating my own." With that you stormed off to the halls, where no one, not even Steve knew what you were up to.
