A kind caring father cuddled his young girl in his arms.
She reminded him of her mother, a spark, flaring woman with a talent in making others laugh.
The little bundle had clearly gotten her looks, but his own resourcefulness.
He'd studied the way she'd prowl around, carefully using her toys to her advantage and helping herself to many other things as well.
Now, a few years later, she was just hitting age 11.
"Daddy!" She called, slouching off a purple backpack and sitting down at the kitchen stool.
He smiled.
Even after all these years she still called him that.
Not 'Dad' or 'Pa', just 'Daddy', which reminded him of how young she'd once been.
"Hey shortie." Another girl, with a Caucasian skin tone and a much lighter brown eye color compared to her sister sat down next to Matron.
"Claire!" Matron whined. "I told you not to call me that!"
"Well it's true." Claire teased, pouring herself a cup of milk.
"Daddy, tell Claire to stop bullying me." Matron pouted, her caramel eyes sparkling in a slight rage.
"Boohoo, what a big baby." Claire jokingly shot back.
"Now Claire." He said, pretending to be stern. "Say sorry to your sister for calling her 'shortie.'"
"Fiiiiiine." Claire sighed, dragging out the 'i.' "I'm sorry for calling you short Matron, even if it's true, and I'll never do it again."
Matron squinted at Claire in distaste before turning back toward her him. "I'm going to out with the guys, seeya later!"
Jumping off the stool, Matron ran before he called out.
"Matron!"
She didn't respond at first, tying on her shoes.
"Matron...?"
She ignored him, and began picking up a few of her supplies.
"MATRON JESSICA APHMAU AFTON." He boomed, making her jump.
"What?!" She snapped back to the kitchen.
"...don't forget to tell us when you arrive."
Her gaze softened. "Alright, sorry for yelling."
"It's fine." He gruffly replied, before turning back to Claire who'd been eyeing him curiously.
"What's up with her?"
"Matron always been rather edgy around her birthday month." He casually replied.
"Probably because of that Freddy's place. You know she loves going there, but she's kinda still mad at me after I jumpscared her with one of the costume heads." Claire snickered.
"That was risky Claire." He warned. "You could've seriously hurt yourselves."
"By what? Putting a mask on? Besides, it's not like it can hurt me or anything." Claire laughed at such talk.
So much ignorance...
So much blindness to the real horrors...
So much innocence.
"Just be careful around the robots, okay?" He sighed.
"They're just robots, how bad can they be?" Claire smiled and grabbed herself a few crackers. "Seeya Dad, gotta work on maths."
