"Nathan, wake up. We have to get to school." I shook him vigorously, but when I took a closer look at him, his face was a bit pale.

I pressed my hand against his forehead and he was burning up.

"Huh?" He slowly opened his eyes and I shook my head.

"Nevermind. You need to stay home, you're sick. I'll call you in," I told him as I dropped my backpack on the floor.

I ran and got an ice pack from the freezer and then wrapped it in a towel, then put it against his forehead. I called the school and let them know he was going to be out today.

"You didn't have to do that..." He told me, but I just smiled.

"You're absolutely right. I didn't have to do that, at all. But I wanted to, okay? So except my generosity. I'll see you later today," I replied as I grabbed my backpack.

"Goodbye. If that dickwad bothers you let me know. I'll go and beat his ass whether I am sick or not."

I just laughed as I made my way out the front door. I walked to the car that was a couple houses down, where Mr. Bradley waited outside.

"It's getting a bit colder outside, Mr. Bradley. I wouldn't want you to fall ill," I said as he opened the door for me.

He smiled as he shut it after I got in and got in behind the wheel. "I appreciate your concern, but I have taken a liking to scarves and earmuffs. I will be fine."

"That's good. You can even look stylish too," I agreed with him and he chuckled.

"I am a man who does not care how he looks, but how warm he is."

"Is that why you're always mismatching?"

"I think mismatching is like its own style. Don't you think?" He asked. I felt like he was only half joking.

"Yeah, sure. Whatever floats your boat, Mr. Bradley," I teased him as he pulled over, the view of the school in sight.

"Where's your little cousin? What happened to him?" Mr. Bradley asked, sounding a bit worried and I sighed.

"I think he caught a cold. He didn't look too well this morning. I didn't even have to force him to stay home, like what I normally have to do. He just agreed," I answered, explaining it all.

Mr. Bradley nodded. "Well, I hope he gets better."

"Me too, bye, Mr. Bradley," I said as I stepped out of the car. I began to walk towards the school when I saw Ryan leaning against the wall by the entrance.

"Oh god," I whispered as I continued walking. I tried to go a different direction, but he caught me.

"Hey! Where do you think you're going?!" He yelled as I began to walk faster. He rushed after me and grabbed my wrist. I sighed as I turned to face him with a fake smile on my face.

"Do I know you?" I asked him, pulling my hand away from his grip. He began to laugh as he stared at me.

"Wow... I am impressed. Pretending not to know me," he said, amused as he smirked.

I shook my head. "I really don't know what you are talking about," I told him and he laughed again.

"Did you go and hit your head on something?"

"Sorry, I have to be somewhere."

He let me pass him this time and when I arrived at the library, Maria was there at one of the tables, writing something on a paper.

"I am so, so, sorry," I told her quietly as I went and sat down across from her. She looked up at me and smiled. I knew it was a fake smile, I haven't been doing my best as a friend.

"It's fine," she replied and I took out my paper from my backpack.

"Let me make it up to you. Lets go to the movies this weekend, yeah? I'll pay for everything," I suggested and she looked away.

"I can't this weekend."

"Aww... Why not?"

"I have to go to Mexico. One of my family members died," she said and I held my breath.

"I am really sorry about that."

"Don't be, it's not like you killed them. I didn't even know them that well anyways. I just hate going to funerals."

"Me too. Well, how about we go after school then? Wait..... I'm babysitting..."

"Babysitting? You got a job?" She asked me and I nodded. I shouldn't have kept it from her as well.

"Yeah, that why I can pay for stuff. Like those movie tickets," I answered with a wink and she laughed.

***

"Hey, nerd."

I quietly groaned, knowing who's voice that was. When I turned around, I saw three other guys standing behind him.

"I see you got yourself a little gang already," I said and he laughed.

"Damn, right. I'm the alpha around here. Always have, always will," he stated and I saw one of the other guys flinch.

When I looked at him, he seemed familiar. He was a bit taller than Ryan, but skinnier. Then, it hit me, he was the guy I ran into on my first day of school. I was impressed by my ability to remember.

"Alpha, you say? What is this, Twilight?" I remarked and there were a couple of snickers. I rolled my eyes, it wasn't even that funny.

"Shut the hell up!! Just listen, I don't go easy on girls. So if you dare push my buttons, I'll smash yours," he said as he walked passed me, and his little gang followed him.

The guy, who I bumped into on my first day, turned back and looked at me. He gave me a small smile before turning back.

"A-A...smile?! W-What the hell was that for??" I wondered out loud.

"Ms. Kimberly!"

I turned to see Mr. Bradley standing outside by the car. He seemed to have lost his patience.

"Oh! Hi, Mr. Bradley," I said as I walked towards the car.

"I've been calling you this whole time on your cell. You need to meet with Lady Winchester."

"Oh... I see." I got into the backseat and I sighed.

"What's the matter?" Mr. Bradley asked as he got into the driver's seat. "You seem so lost in thought."

"Nothing is the matter. I'm just tired."

"Perhaps, is it Mr. Ryan?"

"You know... What good would it do to even try to understand him?"

"Ms. Kimberly, I know it seems impossible, especially with the walls he has managed to build around himself. But trying to understand him, is what will help both of you."

I didn't get it. I didn't get what he was saying at all. His old man talk was too much.
