When I arrived to my mother's house, there were no lights on and everything was pitch black. I slowly opened the door and the hinges creaked loudly, echoing throughout the entire house. I grabbed my gun and I held it tightly and out in front of me as I quietly crept into the kitchen. I stopped walking and I listened for my mother or anyone else. "Mom?" I called out, and then I stood there, waiting for a response.
Suddenly, I heard low sobs and I rushed to the living room, and just as I turned on the light, I heard my mother cry out louder. The lights went on and there I saw my mother tied to a kitchen chair in the middle of the living room with Nathan right behind her, holding a gun out at me. I held it up back at him and my eyes were wide as if they were about to pop out of my head.
"N-Nathan?!" I exclaimed in shock as I continued to hold my gun out in his direction. My mother continued to sob as she looked at me with frightened eyes. "How could you do this?!"
"What do you mean? I've always been capable of doing something like this."
"So, you were working for Mr. Winchester all along?" I asked him and he chuckled evilly as he walked closer to me and I raised my gun even higher, aiming at his head.
"Well, why do you think he always had the upper hand?"
"Why.. why would you do this?" Tears spilled from my eyes as I looked at him, waiting for an answer. "Was it because of Ryan?"
"At first, yes. I loved you first, ever since we were kids. You were the one I had set my heart on, but then he came along and took you away from me. I didn't understand at first, he treated you poorly and he always gave you heartache. I thought maybe it'd work for me if I didn't treat you nicely, but I didn't get the same reaction out of you. So, after a while, I decided to stop giving a shit because you'll never come to love me the way you love him."
"Nathan.. please.."
"Please what? Stop working for Mr. Winchester and come back to you, only for you to shut me out? Mr. Winchester gave me a second chance. Which you never have. Not even a first chance. And, I'm picking up where my father left off. I've devoted all my loyalty to him. So, now I want you to try and stop me, or else, he'll have an even bigger lead."
"I.." I didn't know what to say. As I stared at him, I noticed this look in his eyes. It showed how crazy he truly was underneath. I did feel guilt deep down, because it was true, I never even gave Nathan a chance despite him always being there for me when Ryan wasn't. But, I didn't expect him to turn around and stab me in the back. And my mother's back because she had trusted him too.
"You can't shoot me. And you won't." He took more steps closer to me and he placed a hand on my wrist and pushed my arms down and the gun from my hands dropped to the floor. "I know that I've always meant a lot to you. You've always counted on me... because I've always been there for you."
"At least tell me exactly why? Why would you even stab me in the back like this if you knew you meant a lot to me?" I had a lot of hot tears running down my face and I had some mucus dripping from both my nostrils. He smiled out of sympathy as he reached his hand out to cup the side of my face and I flinched a little.
"Well, first of all... he has my mother held captive," he said as he wiped my tears with his thumb and then he sighed. "Also, because Ryan deserves to suffer. And the only way to hit him where it hurts the most is to go after you first."
He raised his other hand up that held his gun and he glared at me as he swung his hand toward me and I tried to dodge it, but I felt his gun connect with the side of my head and I fell hard to the floor. Pain consumed me as my head throbbed and everything around me was spinning and my vision began to blur. I couldn't move my body even if I wanted to, and I watched as Nathan grabbed my mother and dragged her out of the house. I couldn't stay awake any longer, and my eyes shut closed, and then.. all I saw was darkness.
***
"Kimberly.."
I heard Ryan's voice and my eyes slowly opened. My vision was blurry at first, but it soon adjusted to my surroundings and I had realized I was lying in a hospital bed with Ryan sitting right beside me. I stared at him as he held my right hand tightly into his.
"Hey, are you alright? How do you feel?" He asked me these questions and I took a deep breath.
"I.." My voice came out raspy, and I cleared my throat. "I feel okay.. I think. My head just hurts.."
"The doctor asked me what happened. And so I told him the truth, which is 'I don't know'. Kimberly, tell me what happened," Ryan said and I remembered that it was Nathan who showed up and hurt me. Tears began to fill my eyes and I shook my head. "Kimberly."
"R-Ryan.." I said his name and he leaned in closer. "It was.. it was Nathan."
He abruptly stood up from the chair he was sitting in. "I swear to God I will find that son of a bitch and I'll murder him. I swear I'll murder him." His hands balled up into tight fists and he was about to leave, but I grabbed onto his arm.
"Ryan. Wait. We need to think of what to do first."
"Oh, I already thought of what to do," he responded angrily and I sighed.
"Ryan, you're not going to kill Nathan, do you hear me? We need to plan in a calm manner. This is all because of Mr. Winchester. He's manipulating Nathan, using things against him. And besides, you can't go in there blindly because now he has my mom. So, sit down and let's consider some things together." I pointed to the chair and he seemed to have calmed down a bit and he nodded his head as he went to sit down on the chair.
"At the end of all this, I'm still going to give that bastard what he deserves for hurting you. I don't care how much you try to stop me, Kimberly."
"I understand how much you hate him, but he was still my best friend my whole life.."
"Kimberly, he stabbed you in the back!! Why are you being so stupid?" Ryan asked as he held a hand up in the air and he looked confused and frustrated at the same time as he watched me for an answer.
I sighed as I shifted my gaze from him. "I know.. I know it doesn't sound right. But, he's always been there for me and he would cheer me up when I'm sad and take care of me when I got sick. If there's a slight chance that we could still get the old Nathan back, I'm willing to risk it. But, right now, the priority is getting my mom back and then Nathan. So let's stop focusing on my decision on Nathan and turn our full attention to my mom."
Ryan was right. And he had the absolute right to be mad at me. I shouldn't still be trusting Nathan or even thinking good things about him right now, but all I really have of him are good memories. I know that deep down inside Nathan is a good person, and I fully believe that he wouldn't truly backstab me, Mr. Winchester has to be behind this.
Ryan nodded as he leaned back in his chair and took a deep breath. "Okay." He rubbed his face with his hands for a moment and then clasped his hands together and set them on the table. "Let's get started."
