We arrived at the house much later in the evening. Hailey was deep asleep, so Lucy carried her in while I looked for Ryan, David and Smith. They were still in Ryan's study, but the door wasn't locked. I went in there and they both turned their heads to look at me. I suddenly grew shy as I glanced between them, and then I awkwardly cleared my throat. "So, what are we going to do?"
"David and I already discussed it," Ryan told me as he shifted his gaze down to the papers on top of his desk. He grabbed them and started to organize them. I clenched my fists together. The way Ryan has been acting has been pissing me off.
"And what about me?" I asked, trying my best to hold my anger back.
"You'll be home with Lucy and Hailey." Ryan answered short and coldly.
"That's it? Ryan this is my mom!" I raised my voice at him and that's when he slammed his hands down on his desk, standing up and pushing his chair back with his legs. I flinched slightly as I kept my gaze on him.
"I have it handled! You'll stay here and I'll take care of it! So leave it alone!" He yelled loudly before turning his body around, showing me his back. He crossed his arms and stayed silent. I looked over at David who sat in the chair, not even bothering to say anything, he just watched me as I took a deep breath. I also looked over to Smith who didn't even give me any eye contact. Tears filled my eyes as I sighed.
"Fine.. have it your way, Ryan." I left while slamming the door behind me. I stormed passed the living room where Lucy stood up to say something, but I ignored her as I wiped a tear rolling down my face with the back of my hand. I went to the front door where I gripped the doorknob tightly as I pulled it open, and then closed it harshly behind me.
I couldn't make it down the driveway without collapsing to the ground, letting out rough sobs. I put my hand to my chest which felt tight as I continued to cry.
Not too long after, Smith came outside and he squatted down next to me. "Miss Adams." He called my name gently and I slowly looked up at him. "Don't blame Mr. Winchester for how he acted with you. Although I cannot disclose any information, just know that all he's trying to do is keep you safe." Smith stretched his hands out and I took them, and he helped me stand to my feet.
"Then why doesn't he just tell me? Why cause all this heartache by keeping it from me?" I asked, tears still flowing down my face. Smith stayed silent, not able to answer my question and I scoffed, turning my head away from him.
"Because I'm selfish."
Ryan's voice spoke out. I didn't bother to turn back around. I didn't want to look at his face at the moment, even just hearing his voice made my blood boil.
"The very thought of you getting hurt has stopped me from telling you. My father is a very cruel man.. and he won't hesitate to do ruthless things. If you get—"
"This is my mom!" I yelled out as I whipped my body around. I glared at him. "If I had to, I'd jump in front of train for her! I'd throw myself off a cliff! Ryan, I have been involved with your family since the day I decided to babysit Hailey. He may be ruthless, but if I don't do something, my mom will continue to suffer. Nathan will continue to suffer."
"Nathan brought you into this mess!"
"He's still a good guy!"
Suffocating silence followed after. No one dared to speak another word. We all stood outside, not making eye contact with one another, as the gloomy moon watched over us. Finally, Ryan sighed as he took a few steps toward me. I was done crying, and my body felt weak and my heart exhausted. He grabbed my hand and pulled me toward him. I let him slowly put his arms around me, and tightly hold me. I relaxed myself into his hold while I rested my head against his chest.
