Ryan, Hailey and I all stood in front of Ryan's house. His assistant was still in the car, patiently waiting and keeping his gaze somewhere else. Ryan gave me a reassuring smile as he stared at me, taking my hands into his. I smiled in relief, knowing I would be safe and knowing that Ryan was safe as well.
"I know I just got back and we should catch up and all..—"
"It's fine," I said, cutting him off. "Don't take too long, okay?" I squeezed his hands in assurance as I nodded at him.
He sighed as he pulled me into a hug, his wrapping so tightly around my body as if he never wants to let me go. I hug him back, but it did not last long, as Ryan quickly pulled away and then gave Hailey a small hug. "I'll be back as fast as I can!" He said as he unlocked the front door for us and then jogged to the car.
I took Hailey's hand and we both watched as the car backed out, and go down the street until it disappeared around the corner. "Okay. Let's go inside now." I spoke in a gentle tone as I led Hailey through the front door and inside the house.
His house was a one-story, but it made up in width. There was a lot of rooms and the ceilings were tall. It was very clean, to the point that everything almost sparkled like they do in those commercials. I took my shoes off by the door and I had Hailey do the same.
"When will Ryan come back?" Hailey asked, looking up at me with full curiosity.
"He'll come back as soon as possible. He won't dare leave his two girls alone for very long," I answered as I gave her nose a gentle tap. She smiled and giggled slightly. "You've grown since I last saw you. You probably don't remember well, but I am sorry for leaving you. I didn't want to. I was forced." I explained to her as if she knew exactly what I was talking about.
She stared up at me with blank eyes. I chuckled, knowing she didn't understand me. I rustled her hair a bit. "I don't know, sorry. But I'll forgive you," she responded innocently and I let out a chuckle of relief. Even though she didn't know, it still felt good that she forgave me. I still remembered how heartbroken I was to leave Hailey behind like that.
"Now what do you want to do? Want to play some games? Maybe throw a little party?" I asked her, trying to hype her up as I pranced over to the large living area. It was a leather couch with a glass side table, and mounted on the wall was a huge TV, probably like an 80-inch screen.
"I'm hungry."
I laughed out loud at her response. "Okay, let's go see what he has in the kitchen then."
We wandered into Ryan's kitchen. The counters were spotless, and everything was organized. I stopped in front of the stainless steel refrigerator that towered over me. I opened the side that was the fridge and I saw that he barely had anything. He had left over Chicken Alfredo in a plastic container and I pulled it out.
I opened the freezer side and I saw a tub of ice cream. It was plain vanilla. "How about this?" I held up the Chicken Alfredo in one hand as I grabbed the ice cream with my other. "And then I'll give you some ice cream. How does that sound?"
She nodded her head and I smiled happily, glad she wasn't so complicated. I closed the freezer and I placed the ice cream on the counter, allowing it to thaw out a bit. I tossed the container of Chicken Alfredo into the microwave and warmed it up for about 2 minutes. As we waited during those 2, long, minutes, Hailey and I both sang songs.
"You have a beautiful voice." I encouraged Hailey and she giggled a bit, playing with her hair. The microwave beeped and I took the container out, and served it on a glass plate. I got a silver fork and I set the plate down in front of her and the fork right next to the plate. I watched happily as she ate the noodles slowly. I know that it wasn't that great to serve her someone else's leftovers, but I suck at cooking. I wasn't going to try to make something, and I didn't want to risk going out to the store.
My phone rang and I pulled it out of my pocket quickly, hoping it was Ryan, but instead I saw it was Nathan. My smile faded and I glanced at my phone and then to Hailey. "Stay right there, okay?" I said to her as I answered the phone and walked to another room in the house. "Yes?" I asked impatiently.
"Where are you?" Nathan asked me. He still sounded angry, but he seemed to have calmed down a bit from earlier.
"I went out to catch up with an old friend."
Nathan stayed silent for a bit, before I heard him sigh. "Okay. Sorry for asking, I just—"
My phone died, cutting him off and I gasped. I looked at phone as the screen went black. "No! Nononono! Why'd you have to die now?!" I cried out in frustration as I went back to the kitchen where I saw Hailey finishing her plate of food. I placed my phone down on the counter of the kitchen island, and I grabbed a bowl from a cabinet.
I served her ice cream and I immediately placed it in front of her as she took the last bite of the Chicken Alfredo. I kept her busy with eating as I left the kitchen once again to find a charger I could use to charge my phone. I went into what was Ryan's bedroom, and I noticed a few picture frames that were on his dresser. One of the pictures was when Ryan was a little boy and he was with Mr. Winchester and Mrs. Winchester. He wasn't smiling, he stood stood there in the middle of them.
I noticed that she was pregnant, and I smiled sadly at the photo. The picture next to it was me and Ryan smiling. I didn't remember taking that picture, but I got happy that he took the effort to frame it and put it on his dresser. I grabbed the frame and I flipped it over to the back. It was glass front and black and on the bottom of the back of the picture, "The love of my life" was written there. I felt my heart jump as I set the frame back down.
"I'm finished."
I almost jumped and I turned to see Hailey standing right behind me with a smile on her face. She had some ice cream on the corners of her mouth and I laughed as took her into the bathroom that was connected to the bedroom. I wet a towel and I wiped the ice cream off of her face.
"I missed you and Ryan so much," I said as I set the towel down on the sink counter. She just smiled at me as I picked her up and sat her down on the counter, and looked her right in those cute little eyes. "Way too much."
