I've never felt this heartbroken ever since my father left when I was little. I would be able to carry on through life without afterwards with no tears.

But, my father leaving me, was one of the most depressing times of my life. He was with me majority of my life, and I looked up to him. I always wanted to do what he was doing, and go where he was going.

Months before he left, my mother and him began to argue frequently. They never used to have arguments, or problems with each other, but suddenly they started to hate each other.

I watched with fear and tears in my eyes as their marriage fell apart. I suffered with the noise of screaming, crying, breaking glass and door slams for 5 months, before my father decided to take off on us. I watched him as he packed binfuls of his stuff and load it into a rented Ford truck.

He didn't say anything to me, or leave me anything. Before he got into the truck, he turned and looked at me. He gave me a sad smile, before hopping into the driver's side and taking off.

"It's for the best," my mother had told me the night my father left. I was curled up under my sheets in my bed, crying hard for hours. "Don't think about it too much. Let's just continue with our lives, okay?" My mother stroked my hair that was soaked with tears.

"No! I want daddy! I want him back!" I had screamed out, kicking my legs and crying harder. That's when my mother had yanked me up and slapped me hard across the face. There were tears streaming down her face as she looked at me in my eyes, angrily.

"Do you not think I want that too?! Huh?! Daddy is gone and there is nothing I can do about it! Toughen up, or I'll leave you too!!" My mother had threatened me, and stormed out of my room, slamming the door behind her.

Weeks after my father left, I hadn't really gotten out of my room much. My mother didn't bother to try to drag me out of my room. She attempted to lure me out, once or twice, with breakfast and dinner, but I refused.

Those weeks turned into months. While my mother did her best to hold up the household, by rounding up 3 jobs, I turned into a living corpse. I lost a lot of weight, because I hadn't eaten anything and my skin turned super pale, because I hadn't gotten out.

Nathan always called and came to my house, but I refused to see him too.

Soon, those months turned into years, and I constantly tried calling my father. He had blocked my number and then altogether, he changed his number, because soon after, somebody else would start picking up the phone.

I tried emailing him, I even tried Facebook, but he did everything he could to keep his distance away from me.

Then, I started believing that he never really cared for me in the first place. After I started believing, I started knowing. I knew my father never loved me, I knew he never cared for me or for my feelings, because if he did, he wouldn't have left me like that.

Right before my mother and I decided to move, she got a call from my grandmother, my father's mother. My grandmother had heartbreaking news, and informed my mother that my father had been killed. He was brutally murdered, and left for dead on the side of the street, states away from where we were.

"This is why I never agreed to your marriage, because I knew you would end up driving him to his death! Bring me back my son, you bitch!" My grandmother had left many nasty voicemails on our home-phone.

"Are we going to attend his funeral?" I had asked my mother, while we finished packing the last of the things in our house. We sold most of our furniture, because my mother and I didn't want to be reminded of many unwanted memories if we took the furniture with us.

"I think it's best if we didn't. His family can look at us like we're cowards, but I am not going to deal with their bullshit," my mother had answered me truthfully. She taped up the last box and looked over at me, exhaustion written all over her face. "Let's live a good life, okay?"

Days later, my grandmother called me on my cell. I was confused, but curious as to what my grandmother had to say. It was pretty obvious that my grandmother needed to go see a psychologist or something, or maybe even get put in one of those homes. She was going crazy.

"Kimberly, sweetie. I wanted to call you, because I wanted to check up on how my lovely granddaughter. How are you doing? Your mother isn't hurting you, is she?"

"Grandma... My mother isn't like that. I'm perfectly fine, thank you."

"Come live with me, why don't you? I'll treat you nicely, and I'll buy you all the things you wanted that you had told your dad. Your mother is a murderer, and I don't want that to affect you."

"Grandma! My mother isn't a murderer, okay? Stop making my mom into something she's not. I'll be fine without you. Goodbye!" I was angry and furious that all these lies and rumors were being passed around about my mother.

Then, Nathan came the morning we were leaving. He was depressed, and his face looked like he had been crying for days. He moved sluggishly, as he approached me. I sighed when I saw him.

"Kimberly... I'm sorry.... I just need someone to talk to..."

I wanted to leave already, but I wanted to be a good friend to him one last time, just in case I never saw him again.

So, we went to a park, and I let him say everything that was on his mind and his heart.

"My dad is in prison... He raped 14 girls and killed 2 of them, and injured 5 of them. He was a predator and a murderer...all this time I was living under the same roof as him and I didn't know a thing! Why...why is this happening to me?"

"Nathan...." I did my best to console him, and I went to wrap my around him, but he denied my gesture.

"He's gone, and now you're leaving me! What am I supposed to do?" He kept asking me that, asking me what he was supposed to do. I wished I could've answered him, but I answered him honestly.

"I don't know, Nathan. I really don't know. But I want you to stay strong. We'll get through these hardships together."

"How? You'll be gone."

"We'll figure something out."

***

After my last conversation with Nathan, we called a lot. We called everyday that I was on the road.

My mother and I had a hard time settling down, so we bounced a lot between places.

That's when we came across the house we are living in now. It was really cheap. Not exactly in the ideal neighborhood, but my mother couldn't turn down that offer.

As much as I would like to say that I want to go back to how things were, I honestly don't. I don't want to go back to be depressed, and hopeless.

I must do what I can to stay positive, and overcome this huge obstacle.
