I woke up to the loud vibrations of my phone buzzing. I didn't remember taking my phone out of my pocket and placing it on top of the cushion, but I pushed that thought aside, and I answered the phone call.

"Hello?" I answered, my voice groggy, and phlegm built up in my throat. I cleared my throat. "Sorry. Hello?" I said again, my voice clearer that time.

"It's me." It was Ryan's voice. I sat up immediately, a smile on my face appeared.

"Ryan? Are you here yet?" I asked excitedly, and that's when I glanced up to see Nathan standing in the doorway with a blank expression on his face. I flinched as I pulled the phone away from my ear. I didn't know why I was so scared to see Nathan and why I felt so guilty, like I was caught doing something I wasn't supposed to. "Uh.." I didn't know what to say.

I heard Ryan raising his voice through the phone. "Kimberly? Hey? Are you there??"

I looked back down at my phone and I held it to my ear again. "Sorry about that.. I'll have to call you back. Bye." I quickly hung up and slid it into my pocket. I sucked in a deep breath and I gave Nathan a smile as I stood up. "How come you didn't let me know when you were going to come back?" I asked him, moving toward him.

He kept the serious expression on his face as he watched me move closer. He didn't respond and I began to grow nervous.

"Nathan... I—"

He grabbed my waist and pressed his lips against mine roughly. Something about it felt so wrong, and this time, I didn't like it. I didn't want him to kiss me. I tried to shove him off of me, but he grabbed my arm and held it away from me. He pushed me against the wall, and continued to kiss me and I kept trying to get him off of me.

Finally, he stopped and he stood there, anger in his eyes. "What's so great about him, huh?! What's so special about him that you choose him over me?! What don't you like about me?!" He yelled out, punching the wall hard with his fist. His knuckles were bloody and I reached out to grab his fist but he jerked it away. He stormed away, and I heard his heavy footsteps against the floor and then soon I heard the front door slam shut, making the windows rattle.

I stood there with my hand on my chest, and I felt tears form in my eyes, but I took deep breaths to calm myself down. I didn't want to cry, I was tired of crying. But, seeing Nathan walk away from me like this, made my heart ache. He was my best friend, someone that I knew since I was a child. He was everything to me and I was afraid to lose him forever.

My phone was ringing and it was Ryan calling me again.

"What happened?" He asked as soon as I answered.

"Are we there yet?" I heard a little girl's voice in the background and I gasped.

"Is that Hailey?" I asked, my jaw dropping and my eyes widening. My heart picked up its pace as I grew excited.

"Answer my question first," he said to me and I sighed, walking over to the couch and plopping down on it.

"It was Nathan.."

"Did he hurt you?"

"N-No, of course not.. He just saw me talking with you.. And.." I stopped myself and I shifted my gaze to my feet as I bounced them up and down.

"And what? He didn't do anything funny to you, did he?"

"No! He's not like that. Anyways, I told you, so how answer my question," I told him, wanting to change the subject already. He sighed, knowing he didn't get the full answer he wanted.

"Okay. Yes, it's Hailey. We're on our way to your house. We'll be there shortly."

A wide smile grew on my face. "Really?" I squealed excitedly and Ryan chuckled.

"We're only a few minutes away. I'll see you then."

"Okie dokie. Bye," I said.

"Bye."

We hung up and I let out a long and loud sigh. I stood up and rushed to the kitchen, wanting to wait by the door, but I didn't want to make it seem like I was too eager. I took a seat in the chair that wasn't too smashed, and I stared out through the window. I couldn't sit there and wait. I stood back up and I paced around the kitchen. I kept checking the time on my phone, but that's when I noticed my battery was almost dead.

The sound of tires and the low hum of the engine alerted me and I whipped my head toward the window and saw a Mercedes Benz pull up in the driveway. I almost jumped in excitement like a little kid, but I did my best to keep my composure. I closed my eyes, since I didn't want to see Hailey and Ryan just yet, I wanted it to be a true surprise.

I kept my eyes closed and then I heard the doorbell ring. I wanted to make them wait a little, but I was the one that couldn't wait. I rushed to the door, swinging it open with all my force and I saw Ryan standing there and Hailey next to him. They were holding hands and suddenly tears were rolling down my cheeks as I continued to glance between the both of them.

Before we said anything, I noticed a scar across Ryan's left cheek. I didn't want to mention anything yet, so instead, I threw my arms around his neck. He let go of Hailey's hand and wrapped his arms tightly around my waist, pulling me in closely. I sobbed into his shoulder as we held each other tightly. We pulled away and I wiped my tears. I glanced back to Hailey, and I squatted down in front of her.

"Do you remember me, Hailey?" I asked and she nodded.

"You're the pretty girl," she answered so innocently and I began to sob again as I pulled her into a tight hug.

I said I was tired of crying. But these were tears of joy and relief. I was beyond happy to see Ryan and Hailey.

Ryan's assistant cleared his throat as he came up from behind. I saw him and he fixed his tie as he gave Ryan a look. Ryan nodded as he turned back to me. "I have to take care of something. Would you mind taking care of Hailey? Perhaps in a different environment, like my house?"

I nodded as I went to grab my suitcase from the living room. I came back and I took Hailey's hand as we walked to Ryan's car. I threw my suitcase in the trunk and we all got in, his assistant taking the wheel and Ryan taking the passenger, and I sat in the back with Hailey, still clutching her hand tightly. "I missed you so much," I said as I turned to Hailey.

"I missed you too." She said back and I choked back a sob, and I quickly blinked away the tears that wanted to come.

"What about me? I missed you a lot, too." Ryan teased as he turned around, making a pouty face. Hailey giggled and I laughed, and Ryan soon chuckled along. Even his assistant managed to muster up a smile. The mood in the car turned from serious to lighthearted.
