"Your daughter is so adorable," the old Asian lady behind the cash register said to me as she handed me back Ryan's credit card. We both glanced at Hailey who was by the door doing a little dance. I chuckled as I slid the credit card into my pocket.
"Thank you," I told her with a smile. We said goodbye and I took Hailey's hand, leading her out of the building. "Did you like it?" I asked her and she looked up at me with the largest grin I've ever seen.
She held up her hands to show her nails that were painted a bright hot pink color she picked out on her own. "Yes! It's pretty!" She enthusiastically shouted before she began to dance again. I laughed happily as I pulled out my phone and I called Ryan.
"You're done?" Ryan asked as soon as he answered the phone, which actually startled me.
"Y-Yeah, we just got done," I answered, making sure I don't take my eyes off Hailey. I was scared that she'd run off with that much energy she has.
"Something came up, so I'm sending my assistant over. I apologize, Kimberly. But, I'll definitely take you guys out for dinner later. Is that okay?" Ryan asked, and I could hear how sorry he was in his voice.
"Oh, that's okay. I was thinking of taking Hailey to the park."
"Sure. Tell my assistant wherever you want to go and he'll take you. I'm entrusting him with you both. He knows if something happens to you guys, I will kill him with my own hands."
I let out a small laugh. "Okay, well I'll see you later then. Bye, love you."
"Love you too."
We hung up at the same time and I turned to Hailey who was squatted down watching a line of ants scurry to find any kind of food. I sighed in content as I leaned against the wall. Even though Hailey is Ryan's sister, taking care of her and spending time with her makes me feel like a Mom sometimes. Normally, I would have hated it, but I'm actually enjoying it.
I saw Ryan's assistant pull up in the parking lot, driving a black Mercedes Benz and I went to grab Hailey's hand. The car stopped in front of us and he was going to step out and help us, but I waved him off as I put Hailey in the back on her booster seat. I took a seat in the back.
"Where do you wish to go?" He asked and I sighed as I turned to Hailey who was looking sleepy.
"How about McDonalds and then the park? This little girl deserves some chicken nuggets," I answered with a chuckle and Hailey nodded her head in agreement.
I turned my head to gaze out the window while the assistant, who I keep forgetting his name, drove out of the parking lot and took a right. I let out a sigh as I watched the cars blur by. Even though there's been a small calm between Mr. Winchester and I, I always feel on edge, like I can never fully relax.
The assistant pulled into McDonalds and I told him to just pull through the drive-thru. He ordered Hailey a meal, and luckily we didn't have to wait too long, so we were able to leave pretty quickly. He handed me the paper bag, and I held it in my hand and Hailey eyed it, her mouth probably watering. If this was mine and a-not-so-luxurious car, I would've let Hailey eat in it, but I didn't want her to end up making a mess in this brand new car.
"You're Ryan's assistant, right?" I asked him, realizing that I sounded dumb. I asked the most obvious question.
"Yes," he answered politely. "He hired me as his secretary. But works me like an assistant. They're two completely different jobs, however, he pays me well and for that I am grateful."
"Ahh.... I see," I said as I nodded my head slowly as I took in the information he just presented. "I don't think he's ever mentioned your name before."
