I stared at the front door of Ryan's house for a good 20 minutes. I was nervous to go inside and face Ryan. There were so many things I wanted to say to him and confront him about, but I'm worried about how we're going to end up afterwards. I took a few steps toward the front door and I reached my hand out, and it hovered over the doorknob. I took a shaky deep breath before gripping the doorknob and pulling it down. I opened the door and pushed it forward while I stepped through the doorway.

In the living room, I saw Hailey prancing around on the carpet while she watched a kid show on TV. I looked around and I checked the kitchen to see if Ryan was there, but he wasn't. I walked toward the master bedroom, and the door was wide open. I popped my head through the doorway and I saw Ryan laying underneath the covers. I sighed and I walked in quietly, trying not to disturb him. I couldn't bring myself to talk to him.

I got closer to the bed and noticed that he was asleep. "Ryan," I called his name out softly and he didn't move a muscle. I walked over to his side of the bed and I sat down on the edge of the bed. Some of his hair was in his face, covering up a part of his forehead and I took my fingers and I gently brushed his hair aside. Ryan woke up from that, and his eyes slowly opened and they focused on me who was sitting in front of him. "Hey, sleepyhead," I said to him and he groaned quietly as he sat up in bed.

"Where have you been?" He asked me as he picked his phone up from the nightstand and he checked something real quick before putting it back down. "I looked for you and I realized you were gone."

"Nathan called."

"And what did the bastard want?" He responded with hatred and I sighed.

"Don't talk about him like that. And he wanted to tell me the truth," I answered him and he rolled his eyes. I was starting to get tired of how Ryan has been acting. He was being childish.

"About what? About how much of a dick he was?"

"Ryan! Enough! If anyone is the dick, it's you right now." I stood to my feet abruptly. "Listen, I got some answers. And it seems like I haven't gotten them in a really long time. It's about Nathan and my father and yours too. But you know what? I'm not even going to tell you because of how you've been acting." I turned to leave.

"Kimberly, wait."

I ignored him as I walked out of the bedroom and I slammed the door shut behind me. I saw Hailey there sitting on the couch. She looked over at me with curiosity and I just gave her a smile. "I'll be gone for a while. Okay?" I said to her and she instantly looked sad.

"Where are you going?" She asked as she slid off the couch and walked toward me.

"It's a secret," I answered as I squatted down and wrapped my arms around her. "But I'll be back soon." I kissed her forehead and she nodded her head. I smiled at her. She was so understanding for a little kid.

I stood back up and I made my way to the front door. I heard the master bedroom door open and I turned my head to see Ryan storming out. He saw me and he walked towards me. "Look, I'm sorry—"

"Are you really?" I asked as I crossed my arms. "Are you actually sorry or are you just saying that so I can give you the information related to your father? Because I am tired of your obsession with your father."

"You were obsessed too, don't even deny it!" He yelled back at me and I scoffed.

"Who said I was denying it? I know I was before. I know how much I hated your father! But I opened my eyes and I realized that there was so much more to my life than getting revenge!! It consumed me and now I'm watching it as it consumes you." Tears stung my eyes as I watched him shake his head as he looked away from me.

"I hate him more than you do. I lived with that son of a bitch and it was hell growing up having him as my own father. He's a liar and a murderer and not to mention a horrible father and I had to witness everything. Everything! I don't give a fuck if he has cancer. He deserves to die now! My mother is gone and I never got a chance to do the things I've always wanted to do with her. Like go to the zoo, take her to the movies, take her to go shopping or even buy her a meal at a restaurant. I never got to do any of that!" He was staring at me and tears were pouring down his face.

"Ryan—"

"I couldn't do anything with her... I never even held my mother's hand.. I would see mothers hold their children's hands when they crossed the street all the time when I was a kid. And how badly I wanted to do that with my mom. My stepmom never did that with me. She never even attempted to show me what it was like to have a mother. She didn't even pretend." He ran his hand through his hair in frustration as he looked at me with pain in his eyes.

"I never had a father in my life because your father took mine away. He took Nathan's father away. Trust me when I tell you that I hate your father with all my life." I took a step forward and I reached my hand out until I was able to cup the side of his face. "But I can't lose you either," I whispered as I used my thumb to wipe some of his tears away. "That's why I want you—no I need you—to stop this."

He pulled me into a hug and he tightly wrapped his arms around my waist. He pulled my body even closer to his as he buried his face into my neck. He was sobbing quietly and my heart aches for him as I rubbed his back gently.

"I'll help you take him down. Okay? But promise me that you won't turn into your own father. Please promise me that." I told him and he slowly raised his head and looked me in the eyes.

"I promise," he said and I reached up and gave him a small kiss before I turned my head toward the living room and noticed that Hailey was gone.

"Where did Hailey go?" I asked, pulling away from Ryan's arms. I went down the hallway and I heard muffled crying. I opened the door to Ryan's office and I walked in. The crying was louder and I felt myself getting sad at the sound of Hailey crying. "Hailey? Are you okay?" I spoke gently as I went around the desk to find her underneath it. I squatted down, "Hailey why are you crying?"

"B-Because.. You and Ryan wer-were fighting..." she answered in between sharp breaths. I placed a hand on her back and I rubbed it gently, trying to help calm her down as she had a hard time catching her breath.

"We're not anymore, okay? We're done fighting. I'm really sorry you had to see that," I said to her and Ryan had come up behind me and squatted down. "We won't fight anymore."

"We still love each other, and we definitely love you," Ryan told her and her crying stopped. She glanced at both of us, still looking unsure and I gave her a smile to ensure that we meant what we said. "We promise," Ryan added and she nodded her head as she threw herself at me, wrapping her arms around my neck. I hugged her back and then Ryan embraced both of us, kissing both of us on our heads.
