• Chapter Twelve •
Declan's Point of View
{ Two Years Ago... }
"What the hell are you doing here?" I asked Malakai as he walked in with Clay and CJ.
Ever since Matt and Aiden took me in, I became part of this dangerous lifestyle. I know it is illegal, and we're teenagers, but I came as a stranger, and they took me in and protected me like one of their own.
"Declan?" I mean, I'm sure my facial features haven't changed much from the last time he'd seen me.
"No shit Sherlock," I state, giving him a glare wondering if he too was involved with this as well.
"You two know each other?" David asked, a friend of both Matt and Aiden. All of their friends were forced into this lifestyle. Their parents trained them for it.
"Something like that, yeah," I say to David as I stared back at Malakai. "Aren't you supposed to be looking out for my sister?" I asked with my fists clenched. He is a reason why I left without worrying. Well, at least that's what I thought, although I can't deny that I've grown to enjoy this dangerous life.
"I left to keep her safe; at least I didn't abandon her and lied about my whereabouts." He spat at me as he stepped closer to me as I felt David's hand take hold of my shoulder.
"Malakai, enough. Declan get a grip." Clayton says as he pulls back Malakai and still kept a tight firm on him. I wanted to explain myself to my best friend, but I knew he would understand me nonetheless.
"Look, I love her, and sometimes you have to let go without putting up a fight," Malakai stated as I scoffed at his response, but still, it didn't stop him from continuing. "You're still new to this lifestyle. You don't know what it's like to leave everything behind for being involved in gangs and all the illegal bullshit."
At that, I calmed my nerves and saw it in their perspective. Matt and Aiden always remind me that because of their name, they had to continue what was already planned and deal with the consequences even if it wasn't their fault.
Sometimes things could be 'life or a death' situation according to them just by being involved.
"I left to keep her safe, Gavin and I are only targets to the girls and your family. You should be glad we left before Gavin's story could repeat."
{ End of Flashback... }

Matt 1:35 am: I heard your act of hating Malakai, and Gavin has finally dropped.
Matt 1:42 am: Told you it wasn't going to last, now help the poor guy. He's whipped and did fuck up big time.

I read the text messages after getting home from the small party. In a way, due to everything I know, I couldn't act mad at my best friend. One way or another, we'd end up talking again, and surely we had too much baggage on us.
The only problem now was Raven. She cannot find out about our dangerous life. At least not now, that is, I needed her to trust Malakai naturally.
Declan 1:46 am: Nah man. I'll let him suffer for a while-his fault for leaving in the first place.
