THE GUARDIAN

CHAPTER 13: GUARDIAN

Derek threw a punch that I didn't see coming at me. He hit me square in the nose causing me fall on my back. "Ouch!" I complained. It was the first time I was really hurt in awhile. "Awe c'mon Toby I wasn't even trying" Derek laughed. I got up holding my nose "you asked for it" I said as I threw a punch back. Derek dodged it and hit me in the belly. I doubled over and received a knee to the face. I fell on my but holding my nose again. "Awe c'mon is this even a fight?" Derek asked.

He helped me back up to my feet, "how are you so fast?" I asked. "Im a master in speed magic and invulnerability, I can be as fast as the speed of light and take powerful hits" he explained. "Cool can you teach me that?" I asked. Derek laughed "sorry bro not my department, but after this you can ask Ms.Pillar" he said. I made a glum face "hey don't look so sad, maybe on our free time I can teach you but for now let's continue" he told me. We spared for about two hours, then Derek walked me out of the school.

And walked me to the department of magic. Derek kept blabbering about the day he was going to get his new car. But I was to deep in thought to listen. I couldn't believe that I actually thought that I had a chance with Sandra. This Brandon guy seems a lot more....... Better then me. I looked up at the dark sky. Why couldn't things just go my way for once. I looked down noticing Cindy walking into one of the stores ahead of us. Hmm what could she be doing? "Hey where are you going?" I heard Derek ask.

I didn't notice but Derek had turned the corner but I kept moving forward. "Oh um sorry, I guess my mind is somewhere else" I joked as I walked back over to him. "Well you better find it because we're here". Derek pointed up at a large white building that said 'department of magic' on it. Derek walked me in and took me to the top floor. He then led me to the training areas door. "This is as far as I can go" Derek said "good luck". He turned and walked away.

I took a deep breath and walked in. The training area wasn't even an area. It was a rain forest, there were trees everywhere and it was raining hard. I closed the door behind me and stepped in. Suddenly the whole forest started sizzle like how a television set would do when it received no connection. The rain stopped and the trees faded away. I was now in a large empty white room. "Hello Toby" I heard Ms.Pillar say behind me. I turned to see her standing there in a T-shirt and some shorts. "I was expecting you".

"Of course you was, you told me to meet you here" I said. She smiled "hope you've enjoyed your day"
"More or less it was good" I said. She clapped her hands "good now let's get started". Suddenly the scene changed and we were now in an empty meadow. I looked around confused by the change in setting. "Once magic is unlocked inside the person there are different ways to use it" Ms Pillar explained. "Im pretty sure you already know about mana right?" she asked. I nodded my head "Derek thought me". "Good well in order to use it there are specific ways your body must move.

Ms.Pillar raised both her hands in the air and suddenly a burst of fire came out of one of her hands while water came out the other. Both formed two huge balls in the air. She then shot formed rocks out of thin air into the air while the other shot the other shot light. "There are five main elements you can use without destroying time and space itself" she said. "Earth, water, fire, air, light, and electricity" she said. "Um that's 6, Ms.Pillar" I corrected, she smiled "good you're listening" she then shot a blot of electricity over my head and it formed an electric ball in the sky.

"In order to use these elements you must focus well on them and allow them to move freely through you body, now cast a spell" she ordered. I stood there dumbfounded. "Um what spell?" I asked. "Just pick one" she said smiling. I stood there for awhile thinking on what to do next. I closed my eyes and focused on water which seemed like the safest way. "Good job Toby" I heard Ms.Pillar say, I opened my eyes and seen water coming out of my hand.

I gasped in awe I was actually doing it. Water was flowing from my hand onto the ground. "It's a good thing its not fire" I said. Suddenly my arm burst to flames and started to fuse with the water. I panicked and tried to fling the fire off. Surprisingly it flew right off my hand along with the water. It flew miles away and hit the ground causing an explosion. "Hmm looks like you're still unstable" Ms.Pillar said. "But with practice you'll learn to control it".  I nodded my head "okay". "Now Toby, are you ready to be a guardian?" she asked me.

I looked into her eyes and seen hope in them. I thought about this question all last night. Protecting those that are good, going on epic adventures, meeting new friends and crushing enemys. Seems like the life for me. "Heck yeah!" I yelled "good now let's get this show on the road!" she yelled back. I smiled now filled with a new determination. I was going to be a guardian and change my life forever.
