Epilogue (Tyler)

“Josh! Ruby!” I call up the stairs as I slip my shoes on. The toddler runs into the room screaming, Josh running in behind her, his arms outstretched trying to grab her.

“No, papa, please!” she screeches as Josh finally catches her and starts tickling her. I let out a small laugh as Josh sets her down and points towards her pink skechers, signalling for her to put them on, before walking to where I stand near the door, car keys in hand.

“Are you ready to go?” I ask him after placing a small kiss on his lips. He nods and Ruby runs over and clings onto my leg.

“Lift me up, papa!” she squeals and lifts her arms above her head, making grabby hands at me.

“Ok,” I smile at her before picking her up, handing Josh the keys, and walking outside to the car. Josh opens the back door so I can buckle Ruby in her carseat then climbs in the driver’s seat. “Are you ready to meet your brother?” I ask Ruby while climbing into the passenger seat and craning my neck to see her reaction.

“YES!” she screams and Josh and I both wince. As we pull out of the driveway I pull Josh’s hand into my own while Ruby babbles about how excited she is and how she is going to have big tea parties with her brother in the backseat.

I shoot Josh a huge smile, which he returns.

Josh’s P.O.V

Tyler, will you grab Ruby? He nods and exits the car and starts unbuckling Ruby. I also get out of the car and stretch while I wait for both of them to get out.

“Where’s my brother?” Ruby asks while scanning the horizon. I chuckle at her actions and pick her up, laying her on my hip.

“He’s inside, we have to adopt him first.” Tyler says while opening the door for us. We all walk inside the building and are immediately greeted by children squealing happily as they dash around the building. A lady dressed in an orange shirt walks up to us and shakes our hands.

“Names?” She asks while leading us to the front desk which lay at the end of a long hallway.

Josh and Tyler Dunseph. I hand her the note while placing Ruby on the ground, holding her hand tightly so she doesn’t run away to play with the other kids.  

“Ah! You’re adopting an infant.” We both nod and she once more starts leading us to a back room. She opens a door with a sign above it that said “Infants” and gestured for us to walk in. Both Tyler and I both melt when we see all the infants.

Babies were sitting on the ground, crawling around and napping in their cradles while a few adults were playing with them. “I have one that I think both you lovely couple would like.” She takes us to a table where a small infant was sitting in his chair and smashing cheerios into his mouth. The woman grabs him and hands him to Tyler who looks at me while smiling.

“His name is William.”

Third Person P.O.V

The boys then proceed to head home with their newly adopted son while Ruby happily tells him stories in the backseat.
