The small boy still trembles from his nightmare as he sits on my lap and I think about how to word my answer. Of course I love him but I can't just say 'I love you' because that's literally the most heartless thing ever.
"Josh. You're the most amazing person I've ever known. And no I'm not just saying that, it's one million bazillion percent true. Sure, maybe we only met a few days ago, but you've made me the happiest I've been in a long time. I've been through some really rough times and being with you pushes those memories away. It makes it like they don't exist anymore. You make me so happy I can't even begin to explain. The question is, how could I not love you?" I pull him into a passionate kiss, only stopping to gasp for air.
After we share a few more kisses we lie down again and I wrap my arms around his waist. He tucks his head into the crook of my neck and starts to drift off. "Goodnight," I say as I kiss him on the forehead. He smiles into my neck and soon after his breathing evens out.
I then fall peacefully asleep.
