**** It Had To Be You by Tank
The lyrics are beautiful and the music video is beautiful and the actors are beautiful and it's beautiful****YeongMi spared one glance up to the window on the top floor, to the place she had called a safe haven for the past 9 months. What used to be her room, now just another teachers space. Soon, the teacher would move back in, and all traces of YeongMi would be gone.
She desperately tried not to, but she couldn't resist looking at the front entrance, where Miss Xi stood, holding Hoseok and Jimin by their collars. The others huddled behind her, looking out in regret.
She tried not to, but she missed them already.
Was this really the right thing to do?
Of course.
So then why did it feel so wrong?
Hyjoon had been here earlier, screaming YeongMi's name until she was forcibly removed from the campus. YeongMi had been relieved knowing that she didn't have to face her.
YeongMi shook all of these thoughts away, her gut clenching as a familiar car drove closer.
It was too much to ask that it was Miss Yi driving. No, that would be too good for YeongMi.
The man parked, and the telltale buzz of the car unlocking was the only invitation for her to enter.
No one came out to help her with the bags. She couldn't say she didn't expect this, but a part of her had thought she would get treated better.
She sighed, opening the trunk and beginning to stack her belongings into the cramped space. She paused for a break, staring at her reflection in the window.
What was she doing?
Maybe Seungkwan was right. She was a coward.
She thought she heard her name being called, so she quickly turned, scanning the empty yard for any signs of anyone.
She figured it was wishful thinking, and turned back to stuffing her bags in the back, cursing her imagination and desperately wanting to leave as soon as she could.
The windows were slightly open, the distinct sound of the radio clearly audible throughout the front entrance.
It was a love song, the singer sweet talking his baby into coming back to him; YeongMi hated it.
She slammed the trunk down, glaring at her reflection in disgust.
Go ahead and run away, it won't solve anything. You can't escape yourself, no matter how hard you try.
She could see her soul leave her face as she was roughly hugged, pulled back into Namjoon's chest.
"Please, you can't go."
Why the hell not? "Who says? You?"
A pause, and then, "yes."
YeongMi was too scared to turn her head and meet Namjoon's eyes. She didn't even want to look at his reflection, but she couldn't tear her eyes away.
Just leave, this only makes everything harder.
"You can't leave. You can't leave me, please don't leave me." Namjoon was practically whispering in her ear, holding on tightly to her waist.
Her heart was going to beat out of her chest.
'Me'? Not 'us'?
"Give me one good reason why I should stay." There was none.
"Because, I don't want to lose you."
YeongMi laughed cruelly. "There was nothing for you to lose. You don't know me, remember?"
"Please-"
"This is for the best." With every step she took, Namjoon shuffled behind her, refusing to let go.
"No, it's not! It's not for the best. I lied, and I gave up, and I was a coward, and I'm sorry." Namjoon kept a tight grip on her waist, as if his touch was the only thing keeping her there.
It was.
"I tried everything, you know. I drank, I smoked, I sat on the edge of a roof, I drove 145 kilometres towards my house. Anything to make my heart feel the way it did when I was around you." And none of it worked, none of it felt the same way. None of it compared to Namjoon.
She knew that Namjoon could see the tear trailing down her face in the window, and she quickly brushed it away in delicate anger.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't keep saying things you don't mean." She furiously wiped away the weakness pooling from her eyes.
"But I do mean it."
"Why would I believe you?"
"Because, I'm here, begging you not to leave."
"It's too late."
"No, don't say that. It's never too late."
YeongMi tried not to recall her activities the past week; sitting in the corner of her room with a pillow cuddled to her chest, glaring at the darkness around her. Where was he then?
"My car is already here, my bags are packed, it's definitely too late. You waited too long, which means you had to think about doing it or not, which means a part of you didn't want to do it-"
Namjoon let go of YeongMi, only to grab her shoulders and make her face him.
"Stop thinking about it like that."
"Sorry I can't change my thinking, Namjoon." YeongMi was annoyed. She was annoyed that Namjoon was apologizing, she was annoyed that he was here, and she was annoyed that she was tempted to stay, just because of his stupid pleas.
"I know that we're young, and we've only known each other for 9 months, and I know that you think love is frail, and weak. I know you don't believe in it. But it's real. It's not meaningless. I promise you, it can be beautiful. You don't believe me. But that doesn't change this." Namjoon paused, looking at YeongMi so intensely that she almost had to turn away.
She couldn't speak.
"I am in love with you. I'm hopelessly, desperately, pathetically in love with you. This is more than me saying it; I'm showing it. Stay, and I'll show it to you everyday. Just please, don't leave me."
YeongMi always had given in to temptation....
