~ Takes place in the past ~

It was YeongMi's first day at the boarding school.

In all of her 12 years, she'd never been alone before.

Still, she tried to put on a brave face, striding into the school with the other students. She was led into a large room, where people were being sorted into their dormitories.

The string of students dissipated, as the other students were already familiar with the system.

YeongMi stood alone in the center, shuffling awkwardly and trying to determine whether it would be better to stay there in the middle, or if she should follow other people, even if she didn't know what she was doing and would most definitely go to the wrong place.

She was saved by a mass of sleek brown hair and dramatic make up. This girl looked like she belonged on a magazine cover, not in a school.

"Hey! I'm Im Sana, you're new, right? Come with me, maybe we can get the same dorm if we beg!"

No mention of her family; maybe YeongMi was safe.

YeongMi let the girl tug her along, feeling relieved that she no longer looked obviously out of place.

She wasn't sure why the girl was so nice to her; she didn't think about it too much, she was too happy that she wasn't alone.

Maybe this boarding school thing wouldn't be so bad after all.

Sana led her to a group of other girls, and YeongMi felt the familiar aura of a mass of people around you, closing her in -

"How are your parents?"

A peculiar question, but she guessed that this was just the etiquette of prestigious schools.

She hoped, anyways.

"Yeah, and Seungkwan? Is it true that he's dating that Hyolin girl?"

"Is he really going to audition to become an idol?"

Okay, that was specific. Too specific.

YeongMi felt her heart sink; these girls didn't want to be her friend. They wanted to be her parents friend, her brothers friend.

She wasn't special, or important. She never was.

It was always them.

"Hey, can you call them? It would be so cool to talk to them! Can we meet them? I know, let's all go see them during the spring vacation!"

YeongMi tried to back up, but she only backed into other girls.

Had there been this many before? They seemed to multiply, all staring at her, all demanding something from her, wanting something from her.

Well, she wouldn't give it.

"Ah, they're busy now...."

She was hoping they'd drop it; maybe she still had a chance at being friends.

"Not too busy for their favourite daughter!"

Well, their only daughter really.

"Euh, I don't think I should...."

"Come on, don't you want to share your life with your friends?"

No, frankly she didn't. There was a reason she had been sent away; demanding to be left out of the media - crazed life of her family had come with consequences - shipped off to schooling with no help and no one to take care of her, help her. And these girls weren't the help she was looking for.

She would just have to do this on her own.

"No! I won't call them. Let's still be friends, but my family will not be welcoming you as part of the family, you don't understand."

The girls froze, and Sana gave YeongMi a disgusted look before backing away.

"Bitch."

And YeongMi was alone again.

She quickly walked to the nearest adult, received her dorm number and searched for it.

All of the girls glared at her as she passed.

She brushed past a boy who was obviously about to speak to her; no, she would not give him Seungkwan's number. No, they could not be friends with him. No, they couldn't call her parents. No, they would not get famous from her.

And no, she would not get friends without doing those things.

Nobody showed her the way to her dorm.

She struggled to keep her head high; the hallways were vacant by the time she found her room.

Her roommate jumped up and looked at her hopefully as soon as she entered.

"My parents are busy, my brothers too old for you, and I'm tired."

After receiving another glare, she collapsed in the bed and closed her eyes, already wishing that she didn't have to be in schooling.

That was the first of many nights that she cried herself to sleep.
