We walked down the hall hand in hand. I could already feel the nervous sweat, prickle at my pours. He stopped just before a set of double doors, he turned so he was facing me. Tingles gave me a warm smile that made my heart twist into a knot.
"Don't worry Max, they already love you. You'll do great," Percy reassured.
I took a deep breath,"ok."
He linked his arm in my as he reached for the door," besides we're already late. I doubt they will even notice us walking in-" just as he finished his sentence the door opened. Behind it was a enormous crowd of werewolves, all applauding and cheering.
I desperately plastered a smile onto my face. I glanced at Percy, saying through smiling teeth," you were saying?"
He chuckled, kissing the side of my head. A gesture that's earned even more cheers from the crowd, I blushed in response. "I was saying... that they would love you. And I was right."
Lana stood in a emerald green dress, showing casing her skinny hips. She gave me a rib crushing hug and a rib healing smile. The pack continued to cheer for us, I have never seen a place with so many happy faces. Percy's father was the only one with a frown on his face. The scar on his chin somehow made his frown darker.
I tugged on Percy's suite sleeve to get his attention. He immediately fixed his eyes on mine. "What is it baby?"
"Can I say something to them?"
The twinkle in his eye gave me confidence as his grin somehow widened. "Of course, you are their Luna after all."
Suddenly a microphone was thrust into my hands by a pack member. They trotted off the stage and the crowd fell silent. I swallowed, well that was quick. Percy stepped to the side to give me some space.
"Hello, my name is Max. As you can all see I am a human. My age and my species is a concern for many people, they are worried I can not handle the responsibility of being Luna." In my peripheral vision I saw Olcan lift his chin, as if intrigued.
"But I believe I can learn, I can grow and I can prove those who doubt me wrong. I will make many mistakes and probably trip and make a fool out of myself a few times..." the crowd laughed with me briefly before they quieted back down.
"But I swear to you on the moon goddess above, that I will do everything in my power to protect you and lead you along side my Alpha, my protector, my mate Percy."
The pack burst into howls and applause of happiness. My heart soared with great joy, I wanted to do right by these people. I just hoped I was enough. I handed the microphone back and Percy took his place at my side shouting into the crowd," Let's eat!"
The crowd dispersed, going to separate tables. On each table was white linen cloth and a center piece of crystal vases. In each vase was a arrangement of flowers that I couldn't begin to know the names of. Colors of blue, pink and green made me think back to the Kytani forest I had been in.
A event that happened not long ago felt even more distant in my mind. Like the forest it's memory of the people that saved me felt more like a dream than a memory. I missed Belle, I had dirt but I missed my dear friend. According to Percy Dirt preferred to stay in the woods, being with nature. I made a mental note to visit him later.
Percy sat down at a table visually grander than all the others. It was larger and decorated with multiple glass vases with flowers pouring out. I almost worried the flowers would fall into our food as we ate.
Within minutes we were served our meal. Steak, potatoes, green beans, ham, corn, rice, pulled pork, you name it! Bread was served and so was cheese, so those that wanted could make sandwiches. It was like thanksgiving, and I was happy to see everyone milling about and chatting happily.
