"I've got to get you out of here," Gabe says suddenly. He grabs my hand and proceeds to drag me out of the office. I'm still fuzzy after what just happened, I couldn't begin to process anything.
"Angela will be back. We have to tell Percy," Gabe urged. I realized we were in Percy's room. I sat down on the edge of the bed, feeling cold.
Gabe disappeared into Percy's closet still talking, but I wasn't registering the words he was saying. My eyes were fixed on the blood on my hands. Blood that was already dry and crusting into the creases of my skin. For some reason I kept thinking about the color. Red. Ruby. Crimson. Maroon. Scarlet.
It was sticky and felt grimy on my hands. For a moment I couldn't remember why I did what I did. I had never seen myself as a person to take a life. I know what I did was justified, but it still didn't feel right.
"MAX!" My eyes snapped to Gabe's eyes. He was inches from my face, when had he walked out of the closet? His eyes darted between my own. "I know what your thinking, and you need to stop," he ordered.
He thrust one of Percy's black T-shirt's into my hands. "Put this on, your shirt is covered in-" Gabe hesitated,-" red. You shirt is covered in red."
"Gabe, I'm sorry for asking you to leave." For some reason words kept spilling out of my mouth like the blood had from Angela's neck. "I was just trying to keep you safe. I never meant to hurt you."
Gabe was shell shocked," Max, now is not the time to worry about me! You need to take care of yourself right now." He ran his hand through his hair before saying," change, I need to call Percy."
Hearing Percy's name I broke down into tears. I grabbed Gabe's arm before he could leave. "You can't! He'll hate me! He'll reject me, he'll kill my brother!" I was a rambling, bloody mess.
Gabriel grabbed my face in his hands. "Max I promise he will do no such thing. And even if he tried, it would be over my dead body," he promised. Fierce brown eyes commanded mine to stand down, to trust him. I slumped into his chest. Sudden exaughtion and fear of Olcan racing through my mind.
He kissed my head firmly, a silent promise that he would protect me. He sat down onto the bed and pulled me into his lap letting me cry onto his shoulder. He rubbed my back while dialing a number into his phone. "Shhh, everything is going to be ok," Gabe whispered into my ear.
His body wrapped around mine in a blanket of home-like warmth. After a few seconds someone picked up the phone. "Percy, its Gabe. Something's happened to Max."
"***" Unknown words sounded like murmurs from where I was in Gabe's lap.
"Angela found Parker. She attacked him and Max protected him. Max lived," the way he said that word came across as more of a bad thing then a good thing. "She killed Angela, but Angela will be awake soon. You need to get here, man."
"***"
"Max is phased, I think she's going through post traumatic stress."
"***"
"Talk to her? She's not in a condition-" Gabe grunted in response.
He held the phone out to me. But in my current state it looked more like alien technology. I took it shakingly, I knew who was on the phone but I still called out,"hello?"
"Max, baby, please tell me your ok!" Percy's voice was strained and sounded dry.
Hearing his voice I broke down into tears and sobs. "Please! I'm sorry Percy! Please don't hate me!" Gabe did his best to reassure me but I couldn't keep myself together.
