Never had I seen such light in any one place. The chandeliers hung in extravagant strings of diamonds, glittering in the traditional yellow light that shined down from the ceiling. Across the ballroom floor, the glimmer of diamonds danced with the couples on the dance floor. The walls were tall and framed by the finest maroon drapes money can buy, they rippled like blood pooling down from the ceiling's edge.

Oh, and the walls! Decorated in a painted spring scenery, it was nearly impossible to tell it was painted at all. From the mesmerizing blur of flowers in the pond reflection to the detail of the swan's feathers, it was breathtaking. The room had a life of its own, not a shadow in sight. No, there was too much happiness for something like that to appear in a room as grand as this.

Gifted a royal blue silk gown and gold heels, I flourished in my pack's costmary colors. Kissing my temple, Percy showed me the most kindness I'd seen from him since this war began. We had finally had a large conversation. Percy agreed he would start going to anger management classes, and stop disrespecting Gabe. After speaking with Tristan, I believed that the reason for Percy's behavior in the castle was due to his father's influence during a desperate time.

I wished I could take that poisonous man out of Percy's life, he was starting to change for the better... that is until his father had arrived. Olcan made Percy dark, secretive and explosively unpredictable. I just hope with some away time from his father he will adjust back to normal.

"Did I tell you, you look absolutely stunning tonight?"

I couldn't fight of the smile from spreading across my face, or the blush from seeping through my cheeks. "Only for the third time tonight."

He smirked, kissing me on my rosy cheek,"your so cute when you blush." I playfully elbowed him, as much as I liked him, I hated when he got so flirtatious in public.

"Alpha," a guard addressed.

Percy nodded instead of his usual growl when we are interrupted. "Yes, what is it?"

"Beta Tristan wanted to speak with you. Something about his mate, sir."

For a moment I couldn't decide wether to be excited or disappointed at the thought of Tristan having a mate. Why was I the last to know everything? "Tristan has a mate?" I asked aloud.

My mate cleared his throat,"ah yes, we will talk about that later, Max. Until then why don't you linger with the other wolves here." He politely removed his arm, disappearing into the crowd with the guard. A stood a moment longer, masking my frustration with positive thoughts. I wish I could say it was working.

"My Luna," a cheerful voice said extending a wine class in front of me. The liquid inside was murky and brown unlike the rich purple liquor that was being passed around to the other guests. I gave Gabe an unamused look.

"Did you put hot chocolate in a wine glass?"

He smirked," maybe. Maybe not." He was dressed finer than the night I met the pack. His raven black suite was lined with gold designs that undoubtedly brought out the amber shine swirling in his irises. He left a warmth in my chest, and I didn't know how to tell him about it.

"Come on," he said, extending his arm. "Dance with me."

I put the glass of hot chocolate down, "I doubt my mate would approve." Still I smiled, teasing him as good friends do.

"Then we'll go where he can't see us. Just for one song," he proposed, guiding me toward one of the mingling rooms that were more private but still allowed music to drift through its small entryways.
