My face was tilted upward, watching the sky. A mug of coffee warming my hands, steam lingering on its surface. I didn't sleep a wink last night. Worry consumed me like the night did the day. I never realized how used I was to sleeping in his arms, until now.
"Max, we got a few board games if you want," Gabe's perky voice said.
"Not now Pony," I said glumly.
He sighed sensing my worry," he gave me a call last night. He got there safe and sound and everything is going as smoothly as it can." My hands around my mug tightened. The coffee warmth was tolerable but wasn't the same as Percy's tingles. The warmth of the coffee was only a suppressant.
"That's good."
After a moment he was standing next to me," it's the mate bond causing you to worry so much. A distraction will help." No, I wanted to say, it wasn't just the mate bond.
I sighed, my eyes skimming the pine tree tops. "Fine."
He chuckled," good I've been waiting to kick someone else's ass."
I raised a eyebrow," your so on Pony."
Flashback:
"Alpha," someone had mind-linked me.
I growled being awoken. I cut myself off mid growl feeling Max shift in my arms. I didn't want to wake her. "What!" I barked.
"There was a young human sneaking around the front gate. He says he's looking for the Luna."
I looked down at her while she slept. "What's his name?" I swear to the goddess if it's a boyfriend-
"His name is Parker, he smells like the Luna. I think he's related to her," he explained.
Knowing he could be blood related to her didn't make matters any better.
"Where are you now?" I replied, my eyes scanning her peaceful face as she slept.
"North Gate, it's just us. I haven't told anyone, I came straight to you."
I dipped my head into her neck thinking. By law I should kill him. But if she ever found out- I held her sleeping form closer to my body just at the thought of her leaving. I couldn't kill him, but if the council ever found out they would kill him instantly.
"What makes him think the Luna is here?"
"Something about a friend working in the hospital she was brought in when she was in that car accident. He got a license plate." My entire body shook at the memory. Anger boiled in my chest at my own carelessness.
"Has he seen anything he shouldn't have?" I felt her snuggled closer into my chest. Her arms wrapping around the arms I had around her waist. A small smile spread on my face, cute.
"He knows for a fact she's here. And he saw me shift sir," he apologized.
I growled lowly as to not wake her. "How did he get passed the border?" I snapped.
"The Luna's scent I'd imagine. They are very similar." I looked down at her regretfully. It would only be a hour or so, I'm doing this to protect her.
"I'll be there in ten."
"Yes, Alpha." I forced myself to leave her. My body immediately burned not touching her, my nose spasmed without her scent near. But I needed to meet this kid, I needed to protect her.
He was on the earthy ground when I arrived. He clenched his arm, his face was bright red. I looked toward the patrol wolf. "What did you do to him?"
