Parker is that really you?
My eyes are desperate, how can this be true?
Yes..... you broke my nose with a frisbey when you were ten.
The proof was undeniable. My big brother was texting me. Here in this world. My eyes looked through my eyelashes. And he knew this entire time.
Where are you?
On the side of the rode. Highway 324. Six miles down.
I watched him sleep, so peaceful and quiet. He almost didn't seem like a monster. But after today and all he's done... do I really want to stay with him?
How are you in this world?
His reply was vague but it explained enough to make my blood boil.
I came looking for you. Followed you to his mansion. He nabbed me and has kept me hostage ever since. He said I couldn't leave and that I had to help him win the war over seas if I was ever going to see you again.
Tears almost streamed down my face. Percy knew this entire time...
He knew my brother was here and he didn't tell me! He kidnapped Parker, is forcing him to do something dangerous. He's using me, my brother to win a frickin' war!
It doesn't matter what I feel, or could have felt. After what he did to my brother, after the way he's using us...my decision was made.
Run, meet me at the place we used to go camping. If I'm right it's a couple hour drive from here. I'll find you.
His reply was instant.
He'll kill you.
I'm his mate, he can't. Go now. Your driver is sick, there's no one to stop you. This is the only chance we'll get.
Be safe.
That was his response.
I called as not to wake Percy. "Driver, stop at the next rest stop. I need to go to the bathroom."
He nodded in understanding,"ten minutes."
I looked out the window, my heart was heavy. I was playing with fate and I was playing a dangerous game running from Percy. Mate or not I will not live in a world where my voice does not matter. Where my family's trust and lives are abused.
My brother is out there. Family comes first, that is what I'm taught. All my life Parker's protected me. It's my turn to do the same, I won't let him live in this dangerous world. Not when there's a chance I can save him from it.
We pulled up to the rest stop. The car parked, the engine hummed steadily.
"Don't bother waking him, ill be back in a few minutes," I reassured *cough* lied to the driver. He nodded.
I peeled away from Percy, my feet landing on the pavement. I was about to walk away, when his hand subconsciously caught mine. I stopped. His mark-it tingled as if to remind me it was there. My heart was torn. The answer was so simple.... if I were a character in a book I know for certain I would scream at myself to go.
The tingles from his hand dug into my heart. Tears pricked at my eyes, why did I feel this way? I swallowed what ever feeling was trapped in my throat. Parker was waiting for me, I couldn't let him down. Besides, Percy feels the way he feels because of magic. He wasn't given a choice. I let his hand slid out of mine.
Suddenly the tingles were gone, nothing but numbness brushed against my skin as I shut the car door. The night, fall air rushed through my skin and to my bones as I walked away from the car, from him.
