I could feel him even before I saw him. This undeniable warmth spread across my body like a Christmas fire. I opened my eyes to be blessed by a Amber gaze. Flecks of gold shined in the low light, he was foggy, just out of my reach. He was sitting in the corner of a cement room. His head was pressed back against the wall, mourning eyes titled up at the ceiling.
"Gabe," I whispered in disbelief. He never got the chance to reply before I woke up in a heap of damp bed sheets.
My chest rose and fell with hot, heavy breaths. Wiping the hair that clung to my forehead away gave me clarity. Gabe was alive, and my mate was a temporary ass hole for drugging me. Marching into the next room I saw Percy standing with his father. They were oblivious of my presence for the time being.
"I talked to Viorel, his offer is tempting but I think it's time to follow through with the previous plan," Percy was saying.
"Percy," I interrupted with a clenched jaw.
Both men ignored me, turning their backs. "Percy!" I shouted this time.
"God woman can you leave my son alone for two minutes? If you haven't noticed we're in the middle of a war!" Olcan roared. His jaw measured his anger by the constant ticks that pointed in my direction.
I matched his furious gaze," yes, we are. And if you haven't noticed one of our finest warriors is missing. And if you would just listen to me I think I know who took him!"
Olcan snorted walking straight for me,"one wolf among hundreds. He's a omega, there is no reason to bother."
He stopped next to the table to my right. He began pouring himself a glass of hard liquor. I looked to Percy to support me, but he only stared at the floor as if to say,' I agree with my father.'
"Percy he's your brother-"
"He's my friend," he hissed. "Go back to your room Max. I know you were close to him but it's time to accept the fact he's gone!"
"He's not dead. I understand you are busy," I said lowering my voice. "If you would just give me a few trackers I'm sure-"
"No," Percy growled. Like before he turned his back to me, examining a set of blueprints spread out across a table.
"Why won't you give me a chance. I can find Gabe, why won't you let me try!" I shouted. My words carried the force of a thousand knives. Yet at the same time, I felt mute, like he couldn't hear the desperation in my voice.
He ran his hand through his hair in frustration. I walked across the room and behind the opposite side of the table, so he'd be forced to look at me. "You promised me, Percy. You promised me we would get him back," I chocked out.
His shoulders slumped, his hard gaze melting into a sympathetic pool of green. After a minute of studying me he whispered," your right. I'm sorry." His sentence was followed by the fierce slamming of the door. Looks like Olcan left, and not in a happy mood.
Percy held his arm open, signaling for me to come around the table. The buzz of anger still resided in my veins but I complied. It wasn't until he wrapped his arms around me in a tight embrace that I finally relaxed. "I'm sorry for yelling at you. I am just so on edge with the war, all I can think about is your safety." He pulled back from our embrace enough so he could give me a sad smile. "I know you are close with Gabe, and I know you would do anything to get him back, I love that about you- but I also know that could get you hurt. I hope you understand."
I brushed the side of his jaw with my hand, relishing in the tingles that spread across my palm. "I understand and I love that you are trying to protect me, and the pack but Gabe is still part of the pack. And even if it's a long shot, we have to try."
