(Knock knock)

I wanted to be alone.

(Knock knock)

I didn't want them to see me this way.

(Knock knock)

Why won't they go away? I sat up from the floor I had made into my bed. I couldn't sleep in Percy's bed anymore, I couldn't imagine sleeping in it without him. I couldn't leave his room either, his scent was all I had left.

(Knock knock)

For a moment I thought about Gabe. Last I heard he was leading the pack across the seas. Olcan and his wife were away mourning their son's death. The Beta of the pack, Tristan, had been injured too badly to properly lead. And then there was me, the Luna who had lost her Alpha. I couldn't lead if I wanted to. So Gabe took the torch and was assisting the Charm Speaks across the ocean. They were human after the Charm had broke and they needed to find their homes again.

He was kind, I thought.

(Knock knock)

Caving into my own curiousness, I shakily willed the strength to open the door. Behind it were green eyes and a scarred jaw. "Olcan?" I questioned.

His lips were pressed into a straight line, his eyes seeing straight through me. "May I come in?" He asked, softly.

"O-of course," I stuttered, stepping aside so he could enter my den of solitude.

When he walked in, he stared at the hardwood floor. There was a strip of uncarpeted wood near the windows in Percy's room. The wood was scuffed and scratched, jaded from being paced over so many times. The expression on his face made the same connection I did, but based on the way his eyes darkened I knew he took a lonely walk down memory lane.

"We have never liked each other, you and I. You made my son soft and I thought that would get him killed. After talking to Prince Viorel, I see that it was my son's inability to keep his promise to you that killed him in the end."

I didn't respond.

The old Alpha sat down with a deep sigh, the sheets at the edge of the bed crinkled under his bosom. Tracing his white scar with his thumb he reminisced,"I will never shake away the pain. LOSING a first mate is unlike any torture on this earth. The guilt, self loathing and agonizing fantasies of what could have been will never let me sleep."

"My first mate was the healer's daughter. She was the most innocent flower this pack had ever seen. When I first met her, she had been fighting with a group of girls, defending the life of a worm they were trying to squish with their sticks. I fell hard for that girl," his voice had cracked by the end of his monologue.

When I finally looked up, tears streamed down his face. They patted against the expensive suite pants that hugged his muscular legs. "But your situation is different..." He rose to his feet, back straight and arched in authority.

Again I didn't respond.

"I don't know if you loved my son. I can't say that he ever loved you, my son was cold maybe cold enough that a mate couldn't thaw him. That was my fault, I raised my children to be monsters so that their innocence wouldn't kill them like it did my first mate. I never imagined that not having an ounce of kindness would get them both KILLED!" His fist thundered where he made contact, smashing the bed frame in half.
