It's been 4 days since I last saw Riley, 2 since we last spoke. Well, texted. Riley doesn't like calling people, I remember that. But today she's coming to dance, something I know because I asked Emily. Yes, I know going to Emily is desperate, but I need to see Riley. I want to wrap my arms round her, hold her close, tell her I'm sorry, kiss her until it makes everything okay. But she hates me. And therefore my visions of her forgiving me are completely unrealistic.

"Yo, man, everyone's here." Eldon says, waving a hand in front of my face.

"Huh?"

"Rehearsals are starting,"

"Oh," I say, looking up. I can't believe I missed Riley, she was the whole point I was waiting by myself.

Looking around, I catch a glimpse of a blue top and leggings and I know it's Riley. I mean, all the other girls are in vests and shorts, so it's easy enough to spot her.

As I make my way over to Riley, I pass Michelle.

"Crawling back to her are we? Wow." she mutters.

"Michelle, look, I'm sorry. Getting with you was a mistake and I shouldn't-" Then I stop, realising I'm making things worse. "Can't we just be friends?"

"Umm, let me think about it... How about no?" she says, stepping away from me. "Bye now."

I exhale loudly in frustration and finish walking over to Riley, leaving Michelle to start warming up by herself.

I reach Riley, who's stretching on the floor on her own.

"You're back I see." I say quietly, but she still jumps considerably as she hears my voice, and she looks up at me.

"I, um, yeah I'm... here." she stutters, looking down again, evidently flustered by something.

"Can I warm up with you?" I say, crouching down beside her.

"Do I have a choice?"

"Um, well, not really." I say, smiling. I glance at her to gauge her reaction, which makes the smile fade from my face. She isn't smiling. She doesn't even seem to have any kind of emotion. It's kind of strange, to be honest.

"Ri, what-"

"Why are you being so nice to me?" she suddenly bursts out. "No one else is listening, you can stop the act."

"Riley, I'm not acting."

"Sure." she says sarcastically. "Because you'd be genuinely nice to your ex-girlfriend who you cheated on, for what reason exactly?" she asks, staring at a point on my face not quite high enough to be looking at me in the eyes.

I know this is my chance.

"Riley, I made a mistake. I'm sorry... I miss you."

She suddenly looks away.

"You think I believe that, after everything that's happened?" she says, getting up. "Don't keep hurting me." she adds in a voice barely above a whisper, going over to start rehearsals.

A couple of hours later, rehearsals finish and Riley rushes over to her cubby to collect her bag. What can I say, I've been watching her all rehearsals, so I'm going to continue to do so now. She walks out of the doors by herself, struggling to lift her bag onto her shoulder.
