So, this just happened in one of my classes today. I overheard some of my classmates talking and I'm gonna say it now, he's black. I didn't hear it all the way, so I could be wrong in this situation but I for sure knew this happened before.

Okay, let us get into this, I heard this boy talking something about how I'm a light brownskin or I'm technically lightskin so ... yeah. Then one of the boys talking was like, but I'm mixed. I started listening carefully because I'm pretty sure I know his parents and yeah no. Anyways he was like my mom has some white in her blase blase.

Everyone kept telling him to shut up and all that. I was thinking to myself the whole time, this could be something good to write about today.

This may necessarily not be the case for that particular person but it's definitely happened before. People want to be anything but themselves so bad, they take any little thing to claim they aren't all the way black. I don't get why people have to do that.

Everyone is trying so hard to erase their black roots. Then they get offended when others try to do that to us. It all starts from within, we do it to ourselves, we can never overcome. I don't understand why people act like they can't accept being black.

Be black and proud, I personally think it's disrespectful to the wonderful leaders of our pasts to help evolve this country to join together. We are single handedly taking steps back. I think my school and community is ignorant to the stuff they say. I'm not trying to be too sensitive but it's just crazy that they say certain things because it doesn't really matter to them. What happened to me for me not to turn out like that? I have absolutely no idea why.

I'm pretty sure I am still really ignorant to a lot of things, I do apologize if I offend anyone. I don't mind anyone telling me that something I said was senseless. I wouldn't mean to truly hurt anyone.

And I will end with a question ..

Are people at your school ignorant/desensitized to any/ many things?

love,

black girl ki.
