So, I was reading this book by chubimudi she brought of this fact that brought back something to my memory something that I thought of before. In one of her chapters, she mentioned this man named, Marcus Garvey. So apparently he led the Back-to-Africa movement, also known as the Colonization movement or Black Zionism. From what I know, it's where those of African descent move back to the motherland, Africa. This started because everyone thought that freed Africans did not belong in America, even though we are ever so deserving of this country, but that's another thing.

These white people were so afraid of Black people taking all the jobs in the North because Black people were more qualified. Others just don't want to integrate Black and white people. There were many riots and people killed in the areas Black people movement up north and the Back-to-Africa movement was seen as a solution. A solution more for Black people than white people. Black people, particularly those middle-class ones look at this with much suspicion thinking this would keep them from making efforts against slavery.

I wasn't planning on getting too deep into this. I mean, I kind of get why the middle-class Black people are so opposed to the idea and I think you all know too. Anyways, I kind of like the idea, and it also mentions Liberia. The interest of Liberia comes from the Civil War's promise to end slavery, which would be an extreme change to the status of Black people. The emigration of free Black people to Liberia really increased following the Nat Turner rebellion in 1831. Like I said, the more successful Black people wanted to stay where they would have money and be Black Americans while the poor ones (like me) was like hey, everyone hates us, let's at least go back to Africa. Liberia was a chance for equality and freedom and I mean, we aren't getting that here.

So, what I think about moving to Africa. I think it could be a good idea. If I was to move, I would hope it was Nigeria simply because I am... Nigerian. Anyways, I understand Black Americans association with African countries as less than but honestly, I kind of wish more of us would move. Imagine what shape America would be in, America, you wouldn't have made it this far without us honey.

And I will end with a question ..

Would you move to Africa (if you are a descendant of Africans or if in general)?

love,

black girl ki.
