God bless these school systems. I literally just saw this and had to take that extra time for to write this real quick.

The first one is .. just read this headline.

Hmm, so Slave Auction Poster Assignment, now why would this be allowed? I thought to myself, Ki, at least read the article first

Seeing this poster in a school would make me beyond myself (not beside myself but way past that)

Seeing this poster in a school would make me beyond myself (not beside myself but way past that). So the actual post I agree with. Educating children on the realities is something I do not see a problem with. Nope, that's something we need more of. The way is was done was definitely distasteful. Kids are gonna see this and read it and think this is acceptable. Especially if this was graded.

Like, "good job, you get a 100 because you correctly devalued a black HUMAN BEING. That's definitely acceptable in 2017."

Then the next thing said was, "A New Jersey elementary school recently issued an apology to parents outraged about an assignment involving fifth-graders drawing posters for slave auctions, reports ABC 7." - globalgrind.com

Then the school district discussed planning a community meeting on whether the assignment which directly stated, which asked students to draw "examples of an event that would occur during (your) assigned colonial time period, including a poster for a lecture, speech, protest or slave auction" and if that was appropriate for fifth-graders to be asked of.

So you guys discuss in the comments whether that is appropriate for fifth-graders?

The next assignment I read about was an essay.

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, someone went there. A teacher assigned students to write an essay DEFENDING the Klan. That's to me like defending Hitler and the Nazis. The "intending purpose" was to write a persuasive essay. That is probably something every high schooler has to do. Okay, but making kids agree with the KKK. That's about as wrong as it gets.

I don't care what you are, what you believe, believing that killing because of race, religion, ethnicity, gender or whatever else, KILLING IN GENERAL is wrong. That is what the KKK are about it is not just racism by any means. Please don't tell me people can feel how they want, I know that and I am not against that. Killing is what I am against and what every single one of you should be against. Racism is still wrong, though, can't tell me nothing (yeah that's a double negative but this ain't an essay and at least I know what a double negative is) about that either.

Then they said it would be better suited for high school students instead of the seventh-graders it was intended for. Yeah, you have to understand people have differences. The context of the assignment, just no. It seems like you have to justify the killing of people and then racism on top of that. To me, that is something I am totally against being an assignment.

The teacher could've made the assignment differently. You know what I'm saying, there is many different topics where there are two sides and you have to persuade the reader to one side. Basically, everything in life can be an example.

Someone in the article also stated that you wouldn't give a Jewish child an assignment defending Hitler or a Nazi. That is true, ever thought about that. I just mentioned earlier how similar the two were. So add that to the situation. Now how do you feel about it? It's just something you don't do.

I did an assignment or persuading someone on which way to efficiently clean a water system. You feel what I'm saying.

They did say the woman was black. So they doubt this was intending in the way you would first see it as. I don't care what race she was. I'm black and I don't agree with this assignment. Oh, a black person assigned this, there is nothing wrong with this, is definitely was some people though and N-O-P-E. Every black person isn't sensitive to every issue, we all didn't grow up the same way, in the same environment, or around the same.

So, I'm sorry no one has told me well enough how this assignment is good for anyone to complete.

I already know what someone will say or is thinking, "stop being so sensitive". Well yeah, everything isn't something worth getting heated over. Although those people are probably ignorant (not calling anyone not smart) to things that are really offensive. Then you become desensitized to issues and people can just run over you. That is the thing I think these projects were doing.

I know we all feel different but that is my HELLA long opinion. I love you all despite our differences. THANK YOU FOR READING.

And I will end with a question ..

Do you agree with these assignments or not?

love,

black girl ki.
