Dear Diary,
I don’t know how to explain what I’m feeling. I guess … misunderstood?
There’s this person online who keeps commenting on my stories, and telling me how it shouldn’t be in first person. But she (or maybe it’s a he?) just told me that they write in first person.
I like first person more because it expresses emotions better. There’s a level of intimacy with the characters that can only be reached with first person.
I like to think of my as my friends — a seperate unit from myself that I enjoy being in the company of.
I don’t think that writing in the third person could give me that similar closeness.
I have nothing against third person, though! My favorite author (L. J. Smith) writes in third person. Heck, L. J. was even the author who inspired me to get serious about writing.
I guess … that I could … experiment with third person. I’m always willing to explore my different ways to write.
Love,
Alison
