“Luke. Luke. Luke. Luke.” A voice in my head repeated over and over again as they tapped me softly on my shoulder. I grunted in annoyance and tried to block the voice but they continued and I eventually gave up and woke up. Just to find Michael sitting on my bed, with his laptop open.
“What?” I asked annoyed.
“I did research on the team that Nicole is in.” Hearing that felt like an electric shock and I was sitting up in seconds. He places the laptop nicely on his lap and angled so then I could see. A word document was open and it had three pages. Well done Michael. I applaud you.
“So what did you find out?”
“The team have never won the cup, let alone clench a playoff spot. Getting a player this close to the cup, paying that much and the fact that they've never been there; seems completely desperate to me.” Michael scrolled down a bit more and then switched to the browser where he had the women’s league website up. Across the top were the scores from the games currently being played. On another tab he had the same website open but this time it was the league standings.
“How is her old team doing?” Again, he switches the tab and it’s the website to her old team. I really don’t know what he is looking for if he was a whole document with notes on it.
“Alright, not as good as they were doing when they had Nicole on their team and then her new team are doing alright. But they’re still not at the top of the league. They’re not even in the top 10.” Not even in the top then and there’s…..30 teams? What the hell is going on? In my mind I was far more confused than I have ever been in my life. As Michael said the day before, I’m not a sports expert but spending 14 million dollars on a player annually for 10 years and no progress is happening, this is something fishy.
Michael continues to switch in between the tabs and I lean back into the bed. My fingers fiddling with the blanket. Thinking about Nicole, something big is wrong behind all this and I just wanted to go to her again and take her away from all this but I couldn’t do that. We’re going to Toronto tonight and we still haven’t found out what is wrong.
In the pit of my stomach I felt like she’s in danger of being damaged. Something bad is going to or is happening to her and there’s not much that I can do at this very moment, right now, all I can do is keep searching for the evidence with the boys and once we find out what the hell Gabe is up to, then we will be able to save Nicole.
In the meantime, all I can do is hope that we figure it all out before Gabe does something to hurt Nicole. The girl who may have broken my heart but I am still madly in love with her. Slowly I get out of bed and walk over to my luggage. I rummage through it for a while until I found the exact pair of my American apparel underwear that Nicole wore. I stuff it back inside and then went back to the bed, completely forgetting why I went to my bag in the first place.
Michael began to type away and I sat next to him again to see what it is. When the page was taking too long to load, I just got up again and went to the window which gave me a nice view of the city. “Uh…Luke. This might be interesting.” I close the curtains and once again return to the bed. “I guess we’re all wondering how this team can pay a lot for Nicole, it turns out that the money is being supplied by some rich ass billionaire. Get this, the billionaire originates in Tampa.”Tampa. Wait a minute. “That’s where Nicole’s old team is. So someone from Tampa is supplying money to keep Nicole out of Tampa. This just seems messed up. We need the guys. A projector and a quick power point.”
****
“Alright, since Luke and I can’t do this together, we’ve brought you two in.” Michael started. He points over to the projected PowerPoint and a picture of Nicole comes up. “Nicole Angelina Stamkos. Ex-Captain of the Tampa Bay Royals and currently playing for the Colorado Ravers after a trade worth 14 and a half million dollars annually for the next 10 years.” I press the enter button on Mikey’s laptop and a picture of Gabe, with doodles, comes up.
“Gabriel Landeskog, currently the captain of the Colorado Avalanche. Main suspect in this wild case and he is suspected to be involved with the death of Nicole’s father and the hospitalization of her older brother Steven. He had no direct connection with Nicole until Australia. When he informed Nicole of the crash he was unbelievably quick which leads us to the assumption that he planned the crash. He had no direct purpose to be in Australia. No relatives there, no sponsorships, nothing.” Michael takes a breather and drinks a little from the glass of water that I provided.
